On my way back from a week with the +Safecast team in Japan - API Hackaton, and week-end in Fukushima, doing a bGeigie build workshop at Aizu university, and helping with the install of a Pointcast sensor in Odaka, Minami Soma, Fukushima Pref. It's housed by Wada-san who runs the cowork space "Odaka Worker's Base" in anticipation of return of evacuees next spring. The Odaka station is also re-open, making Odaka much more accessible. The dual sensor is mounted above the entrance and radiation levels will be visible from the street and on http://realtime.safecast.org/ (sensors 100081-2)

Yeah, this totally calls for APRS, imho :) Fortunately fiber optic internet links still work in the exclusion zone.

This whole VW scandal really makes a good case for more open source software and code disclosure!

Great feature by NYTimes this week-end. One of the even darker aspects of the Greek shipping industry.
Few places on earth are as free from legal oversight as the high seas. One ship has been among the most persistent offenders.

Leap charged riders $6, nearly three times the price of a ticket on a city bus. Its draw was luxury, with black leather seats, individual USB ports and high-end snacks.

How easy is it to create a power monitor with Wizkers.io? Very easy!
Power monitoring: one project in one day. So we get asked the question, “how easy is it to use Wizkers for my own sensor project” ? The answer is “very easy”. This post describes a new Wizkers project from start to finish, which took one Sunday to put together.

Don't you just love it when you ask an audio equipment vendor for documentation on their protocol and their reply is "sorry, this is a proprietary patented low-latency audio protocol that we cannot disclose" ?

Don't you love it even more when you fire up Wireshark for the sake of it and see that the equipment in question does HTTP requests with "GStreamer souphttpsrc libsoup/2.43.1" in the user-agent field, and just gets a 256kbps MP3 back from the "audiophile" server - the whole song at once - for playback ? Then just standard UDP for player control...

Come on :-)

Not a major release, but lots of useability improvements in Wizkers 0.9.13.

Wizkers is now used by hundreds of users, and we keep getting great feedback on the platform - both as a Chrome app, and as a server app.
Release of Wizkers 0.9.13. We just released version 0.9.13 of Wizkers: lots of stability improvements in this release. More robust STM32 DFU firmware upgrades – hundreds of users have tried it, only one issue reported, and fixed now. Better support on smaller Chromebook screens, ...

Wizkers.io on Hackaday! Besides the fact I really like the +FriedCircuits  USB tester/power logger, Hackaday says lots of nice things about http://wizkers.io/ , so I am very happy to see my project getting this sort of endorsement.

Thanks +William Garrido for this collaboration, it's been a fun ride!

Very sloppy, for small parts especially the store is a mess... Items are stacked seemingly randomly, price at checkout is just as random... Not worth wasting your time on, there are better choices around.

Very nice place, stayed here on our way to Los Angeles, great stopover if you're taking the scenic route. Location is pretty unique, staff was friendly, food on the expensive side but very good, and the rooms were fine too.
