SANTA'S DESK AT EDGEWOOD...All through the month of December Santa’s desk was right next to the Christmas tree at the front of the living room. It had his mailbox next to it w/ letters from the kids in it. The desk had his cocoa mug w/ candy cane, his ink well w/ feather pen, the naughty – nice list, his pipe, glasses, a red & white striped candle for him to see by, and several letters he was working on. His Santa hat was on the back of the chair and his black boots were on the floor next to his chair. The residents really loved it and so did the children that visited the facility.

The holidays can be lots of fun for older adults too even if they’re not in the best physical or mental shape. Here are some great ways to include your senior loved ones and bring some holiday joy into their lives and yours.
1) Play a game of cards or a board game
2) Bake some cookies together
3) Bring the grandkids around for a visit
4) Take a walk around the mall or neighborhood and enjoy the holiday decorations
5) Watch a holiday movie together and make some popcorn

EDGEWOOD TREE LIGHTING
Last Tuesday evening we had a tree lighting ceremony. Staff, residents, and family gathered to hang ornaments on the living room tree while listening to music by Mark Wilkins. The entertainer sang a variety of oldies while the audience enjoyed brownies, cupcakes and holiday punch. As you will see by the pictures, residents clapped to the music. Those who could stand got up to dance with staff. Others had fun dancing in their chairs. Then once the tree was fully adorned and the living room was dimmed, the tree lights were turned on. Everyone joined together to sing such holiday favorites as “Silent Night” and “White Christmas” by tree light. It was a beautiful and memorable evening filled with smiles, singing, and tradition as loved ones gathered together to celebrate.
