Thanks a lot, FDA.
Remember when the FDA rejected drugs? We just got treated to a whole lot of drama this week as to whether Addyi, a drug to boost women’s libidos, would be approved. But based on the data, that approval was probably a foregone conclusion. As recently as 2008, companies filing applications to sell [...]

We were a rag-tag group of French voyageurs, each with a sorry tale, a skill to earn our way, and hope for the future. Heading out in our 20-person canoe, we were on a mission to trade goods such a...

Kids Need to Hear Good News about Environment
Recently I've been reading  and writing about   How to Raise a Wild Child  by Scott P. Sampson. The chapter on "The Rewilding Revolution" included a passage that grabbed my attention: "One of the greatest gifts we can give to children is an optimistic outlo...

Currently, the EPA does not regulate even a single human pharmaceutical in drinking water. Makes me want to run out and buy a reverse osmosis filtration system.
Humans have spiked ecosystems with a flood of active pharmaceuticals. The drugs are feminizing male fish, confusing birds, and worrying scientists.

One of many interesting tidbits: "Small but statistically significant declines in the proportion of males born have been observed across several developed countries, including the Unites States and Canada, and there are suggestions that this may be an indicator of disruptive chemical exposures."
Is it a boy or a girl? That’s what everyone wants to know from the expecting parents. The ratio of newborn boys to girls (called…

Someone trying to randomly guess your feelings and what you are thinking won't really help you feel loved. Someone listening, asking questions, and wanting to know you better is a show of love and caring about you.

Hip hip hooray!
Canada is one micro-step closer to a federal ban on microbeads. The Conservative government said Thursday it is proposing to add microbeads to the list of toxic substances under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, as well as developing other regulations.

A blog about Going Green Gradually with 3 little ones.
Introduction
My name is Betsy. I am a mom of three young children, an occasional policy analyst, and the author of the blog Eco-novice: Going Green Gradually, where I chronicle my eco-successes and failures. I discuss such topics as cheap and easy ways to go greencloth diapering and early potty training, switching from disposables to reusables, and limiting your family's exposure to toxic chemicals. My background is in science, education, and public policy. My writing has been featured on websites such as Healthy Child Healthy World and DrGreene.com.
