I received excellent level two free-dive training with Nick. The tailored program provided me with incredibly efficient free-dive skills, as well as amazingly helpful gear recommendations and rental. Most of all, his stand for me to made it to depths even I didn't think I could, made all the difference in the world and is what got me to my new personal best of 90 feet. Thank you for introducing me to other free-divers in the area, I had a wonderful time diving with John and Julian. Looking forward to more diving and training when I'm back in July!

I got my certification in 2008 and had a great experience with ECD! Recently my certification card became faded and I stopped by the shop to get a replacement. I had it in my hand later that day! The service is second to none and I can't wait to get some equipment before my trip to Hawaii in August! I highly recommend ECD to anyone interested in getting started in scuba!

Really enjoyed visit to this dive shop with my husband. Very conveniently located and well stocked. The salesperson we spoke with was very passionate about diving, certification programs, and organizing diving experiences nearby involving customers of East Coast Divers (a little too cold up here for me, but sounded like a good time).

I learnt to dive in the warm, clear waters of Southeast Asia and was then landlocked for several years. Moving to Boston seemed like the perfect time to relaunch my underwater explorations-- even with the chilly New England waters! I've taken advanced classes at ECD, bought equipment and accessories from the shop, been on their guided shore dives, and on their group dive trips, and every experience has been fantastic. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about scuba equipment and what's coming next in the industry and will work with you to figure out the setup that's best for YOU; the instruction is the best I have seen and the instructors will keep working with you on a skill until you've mastered it before letting you move on; the dive guides are well prepared and well-versed in the art of New England diving; and the dive trips are top notch and a lot of fun. If you want to explore the underwater world with a team that eats, sleeps, and breathes scuba, go to ECD!

East Coast Divers is the best dive shop I've been to. When I went to get set up with gear they were very helpful and gave me their personal opinions on the gear. Staff is very professional and very personable. As soon as you walk into the store they make you feel very welcome. Very good instructors as well, they make sure all your questions are answered and that you really feel confident with what you are learning. I not only learned how to dive with them but had the pleasure of going on a group trip to Saint Lucia. The trip was a great success, and Alex(the trip leader) was extremely helpful. Anyone looking to go on a tropical dive vacation should look no further! The trip to Saint Lucia was a fun experience. I highly recommend them to anyone, and look forward to working with them in the future!

Definitely one of my favorite local dive shops. This place is really about building a local dive community that happens to have a shop. They are friendly, fun, knowledgeable and professional, but most of all flexible, when it comes to getting you what you need and making a schedule work. Rather than go for a broad range of offerings and an "all things to all people" approach, they cover the standard SSI training course offerings, but then have added a special focus on free diving and technical diving for those who are interested in pursuing those directions, all at your own pace. As the new owners continue to put their own stamp on the operation - a type of reboot - it just seems to be going from strength to strength!

Great spot and very knowledgeable staff. Love the 60 day return policy, helps ensure your happy with your gear. Their rent to own program is pretty amazing. Every payment you make goes to the purchase of your gear, simply can't beat it.

I've been procrastinating. I admit it. But let's face it, the winter time was NOT the best time to start training for scuba certification! It's mighty cold in the winter! Yes, but here I am wanting to get through my training so that I can start getting into the water (rather than just float from the top!) and I had trouble finding a place that was flexible enough to adjust to my busy schedule and one that had a rigorous and thorough training process. Luckily my boyfriend had been good friends with the individuals at EC divers and voila! I am just one class away from completing the pool/academic requirements before I actually hop into the ocean! If you're anything like me, you can make a 101 excuses in your mind why not to start the training process. Let's face it, we're all busy and we all have "time later on." But really, why not just start now? I finally took the plunge (har har). The individuals on the phone were friendly and helped me understand the training process, what the schedule was like and how they were able to accommodate my time (or lack thereof!) There are a total of 6 pool sessions and 2 classroom sessions that you need to complete. You need to complete the pool sessions in order but the classroom sessions can be done at any time in any order. If you follow their schedules, you will be taking pool lessons on Sunday 5:45 -7:45pm (first pool session) and then 7:45-9:45pm (second pool session). The next scheduled pool session are Wednesdays 7:45-9:45pm. They offer all pool sessions on any of those days. Just make sure to call beforehand to let them know you're coming because they limit the number of students per instructor. So not only are these times friendly for those who work during the day but they also offer private pool sessions (a little more money) where they find a time that is convenient for YOU to finish your certification At first I had this vision of chaos where a bunch of students of varying capabilities following a single instructor. Well duh, that's obviously NOT how things were run. They understood where everyone was coming from and people of varying backgrounds/swimming capabilities were present. We had a neat 4 person class and we teamed up with Alexsey (who subsequently taught ALL my lessons... by chance!). The instructors were thorough, patient and vigilant at all times ensuring you completed your tasks successfully before you moved onto the next objective. The pool sessions take place at the Boston University pool and there is plenty of parking on the street there. The classroom sessions take place in a back room of the dive shop. Remember, before you start your classes, you need to complete the online SSI training otherwise you'll have wasted a drive! Really, it's for your own benefit to have that completed. It takes a while as there are a series of lessons and matching quizzes. For the pool session, make sure you have scuba fins (not short snorkel fins), booties, mask and snorkel. If you drop by the dive shop beforehand, they'll show you exactly what you need. phew... I think I covered everything! After I complete the initial certification I hope to also participate in their specialty dives which there is a long list of that is too long for me to list here. Bottom line: You've got a friendly, enthusiastic group of dive instructors with a business motto of safety first and flexibility of schedule. I am very pleased with what I have seen so far so come on and take a look for yourself!
