" Mountain biking hasn't been a passion since childhood. I, quite strangely, treated it as a way to target my obesity. It’s my brother who egged me on to try out mountain biking- since it was his fav sport. We started out only a year before and the Town of Eagle was our first destination. Hardly could I estimate the importance of taming the Rockies amidst such wondrous natural beauty. We are definitely heading for it next year as well!"

I remember having spent some of the best times of my life with my two kids in a close knit outdoor camp under the splendid Colorado skies. I camped twice with my children and both the times with Eagle Outside. Love their services!

Hey there! I can't thank you enough for making my first hiking experience so memorable. I remember that I wasn't too keen on embarking in a hiking venture before I actually set off with you guys! I had my own reservations against these types of sports. Nonetheless, that's a thing of the past. I am ready to set out with you guys once again!

The little town of #EagleCO  is a stone's throw from world-class skiing.  For the past week, and for the next week, our neighbor is hosting the #Vail2015  World Championships Ski Races.

This post reports on how this international event has impacted #local  businesses.

Is Business Booming during #Vail2015   ? ... Not so much! ...

Looking at the opening ceremony image (below) one would have thought that the local businesses would be nothing but booming but … reality is a mixed bag … here are some of the summations from business owners in Eagle County

”...fantastic” ... “...not a winner” ... “good but not crazy” … “rooms available !” … “we’ve gotten some big special orders” ...

“I’d say we’re somewhere between the holidays and a regular week in this part of February,” Yeti’s Grind co-owner Tara Picklo said. Picklo said her coffee shop hasn’t been as busy as during the GoPro Mountain Games, or even the USA Pro Challenge cycling event in the summer. “It’s good, but not crazy,” Picklo said. Yeti’s Grind has two locations: Vail and #EagleCO

”In Lionshead, Montauk Seafood Grill co-owner Tom Ludwig said he’s not a fan of the World Championships. “The only people in town right now are teams and sponsors,” Ludwig said, adding that Montauk isn’t really big enough to handle groups that big. As a result, his business is off, and significantly. “It’s just like 1999,” he said. “For me, it’s not a winner.”

”Coyote Cafe general manager Buzz Busby said the restaurant, and the village beyond, has been quite busy. … the restaurant fills up just before and after the mid-day races, then gets busy again for happy hour and dinner. Even the nightlife in the village has been pretty active, Busby said. “Overall, it’s been fantastic,” he said.”

”Tim Parker of Gore Creek Properties, a property management company, said Vail was “empty” Friday afternoon. ... several potential clients have told him they’d prefer to come after the Championships. Meanwhile, there are condos and hotel rooms available.

?? !!!

Then again, there are certain businesses that are sure winners, particularly for events like #Vail2015 : ”At West Vail Liquor Mart, manager Chip Bartsch said that shop has stayed pretty busy through the first week of the Championships. … “Nights have been a little slower because of the concerts,” Bartsch said. “But we’ve gotten some big special orders, from the teams. We’ve had orders for a lot of booze for cooking.”

Guess, large crowds and parties are winners for liquor stores - at any time, and anywhere !

Dedication to the sport . . . in spades! #Vail2015

h/t +EagleCO Vail2015 and +Cherie Manifest for this beautifully written piece.

At the top: Vonn breaks all-time World Cup wins record ... 63rd World Cup victory!

ORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy — "Lindsey Vonn won a super-G Monday for her record 63rd World Cup victory and celebrated with an embrace from a surprise visitor — boyfriend Tiger Woods.

The American broke Annemarie Moser-Proell’s 35-year-old record of 62 World Cup wins with a flawless run down the Olympia delle Tofane course, finishing 0.85 ahead of Anna Fenninger of Austria.

Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein was third, 0.92 back.

Wearing a mask, Woods weaved through the crowd unnoticed until he shared an emotional embrace with Vonn, who had no idea that the golfer was coming.

“No way!” Vonn exclaimed when she spotted him.

“I didn’t think this could get any better than yesterday with my entire family here but now with Tiger here this is unbelievable,” said Vonn. “I said, ‘I can’t believe you came.’ And he said, ‘I told you.’”

Woods did not speak with reporters.

Vonn tied the record of 62 victories when she won a downhill here Sunday.

“I’m so happy to have finished the weekend with win No. 63. My family and Tiger is here. It’s a really, really special day,” she said.

Vonn faced intense media pressure to match Moser-Proell in recent weeks.

“I know it’s a big achievement,” Vonn said. “But I have to focus on the skiing. I can’t let everyone else’s expectations get into my head. So that was my goal this weekend, just trying to ski my best. And I thought I did a really good job.”

Moser-Proell, an Austrian great, established her record between 1970 and 1980.

“Moser-Proell was skiing in the 70s and all the young people in Austria don’t know what that record means,” Fenninger said. “For the newer generation it’s very important that Lindsey make history. ... It’s time to have a new record. She’s very important for us, because in America she’s a real superstar.”

Swedish standout Ingemar Stenmark holds the men’s record of 86 wins.

Vonn was relatively subdued in h er celebration, having said that win No. 62 was more important to her.

She was the last of the favorites to come down and flashed a big smile when reaching the finish then did a slight fist pump.

It was Vonn’s first win in super-G this season and her fourth overall this campaign, showing a return to top form after two knee injuries kept her out of last year’s Sochi Olympics.

Perhaps more importantly, the win showed Vonn is dominating again just weeks before her home world championships in Vail and Beaver Creek, Colorado.

Vonn was on track to shatter Moser-Proell’s record two years ago before a high-speed crash at the 2013 world championships in Schladming, Austria, when she tore two ligaments in her right knee. She attempted to return for Sochi but re-injured her knee in Val d’Isere, France, in December, 2013, requiring a second surgery.

The 30-year-old Vonn is planning to compete through the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

It was Vonn’s ninth career win in Cortina, where she had her first podium result in 2004, putting her within one of Austrian Renate Goetschl’s record 10 wins in the resort known as the Queen of the Dolomites.

Vonn has won 32 downhills, 21 super-Gs, three giant slaloms, two slaloms and five combined races.

Not included in those numbers are Vonn’s gold medal in downhill at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, or her golds in downhill and super-G at the 2009 worlds in Val d’Isere.

Moser-Proell won 36 downhills, 16 giant slaloms, three slaloms and seven combined races.

The super-G was introduced two years after Moser-Proell retired.

This race was originally scheduled for Sunday but was postponed due to heavy snowfall over the weekend, which pushed the program back."

Some towns aim to become more “walkable.” One Colorado town has gone the two-wheeled route by becoming more “mountain bike-able.”

It's all eyes on Tina Maze (pronounced MAH - Zay) of Slovenia.  She is the only racer at #Vail2015  to ski all five events AND be a major medal contender in all of them.

Tina took the silver in SuperG on Tuesday and grabbed the gold in Friday's Downhill.

On Monday, she'll race in the Combined (DH & Slalom); on Thursday, the GS; on Saturday, the Slalom.  Watch this lady!
Tina Maze made history yesterday, and not just as the first world champion to double as a Slovenian pop star. At 31, she's now the oldest female skier to have won gold in a Championship event.

"Raptor" is a "Bird of Prey" – an Eagle – and where the ladies will be racing at #Vail2015
On Tuesday, the world's best women downhill skiers got their first chance to train on "Raptor," built adjacent to the men's "Birds of Prey" course, and it got their attention in a hurry.
