RPG Peoples... I've registered for PAX Unplugged, November. I've never been to a PAX event, so this will be a first. What happens next? Is there a cattle call for games with online registration? Does everything just happen on site? Is there afterhours stuff that happens at Pax that benefits staying at or near the hosting site? Where does PAX fit into the GenCon-Dreamation continuum?

Inquiring minds.

(And, i guess, if you're going please do let me know.)

(+Julian Bernick, +Justin Bow, +Mark christensen, +Nick Morawitz +Jeff Goad headsup)

I can't be bothered with RPing equipment shopping, so I'm going to institute this Haggling rule for players that might want a bargain when buying goods.

Haggling

Roll Doubles vs. your Charisma. If both dice succeed you get a 10% discount on your purchase. If both fail you must pay 10% more. If either die is a critical or a fumble then consult the gm for additional rp consequences.

I can see players pushing this out with either higher stakes as exhibited in an AC. Or this could be an opportunity for an auction. But the flat 10% is there for the taking and happy shopping.

Thanks, WHers.
After 30 or so years off for good behavior, I return tonight to GMing. As part of my house con "RPG Roulette", I drew the evening slot to run a one-shot. I chose to run a Whitehack OSR homebrew that i've been sitting on forever. Add to Whitehack a bit of +Troika! , small helping of +The Black Hack, lots of inspiration from +Into the Odd, and none too little hero worship and theft from the likes of +Jason Morningstar and +Bill White magic. Thanks to +Whitehack Appreciation Society for keeping me in check. Next stop... Artificial Magic, Feminist space Ettins and the snarling wrath of the Apoctapus.

Deal with the Devil

WHers, I'm thinking of using a 'Deal with the Devil' option on character death. I think Dugneon World has this; or maybe it's just something a friend used in DW. Other than "betrayal", do any of you smart GMs have ideas for why the Devil would return you to the land of the living? Bangs and Hooks saught.

More rules questions...

Q. Negative-20? If an unarmored character has an AC zero, then how to adjudicate -AC costs (for example fighting Offensively)? A not common occurrence but perhaps not as easily solved as Postive-20 rule does in the inverse.

Q. When you get an extra group for having a low Stat, is that group specific to that stat or can the player apply it anywhere?

Q. Species negative-bangs. DMs can invoke the Character's species as a negative... does that only apply to those Stat specific applications or can the DM draw on them situationally as seen fit?

*Q. Not real rules questions but something I've been wrestling with and wondered if anyone else had thoughts but: How would you do Grappling with Auctions? How would you do Initiative with Auctions?

Whitehack Quickstart Character Generation v.0.3

Hope there aren't substantial changes to this but i'll leave this version up for a week. Let me know if you see anything that needs to be corrected or improved. I'll post a final version of this next week.

I'm looking to expand on the archetypal examples for the main three classes. What have you come across in your games to add to the core examples?

Strong, examples: warriors, guards, brigands, knights, bounty hunters, barbarians

Deft, examples: thieves, wandering monks, spies, marksmen, rangers or assassins

Wise, examples: wizards, priests, alchemists, exorcists, demonologists, druids, runecarvers, bards, mad scientists

Whitehack Whitepaper, DM Reference Guide v.3

I don't anticipate additional changes but happy to update if you find any errors or have some improvements. :)

Working on this for OSR Whitehack system. Combining it with elements for a Story Gaming "DM Character" Sheet I've been kicking around for a while. The system relies on a sort of stoic 60s textbook vibe; so I tried to copy that here. The stars were a stretch.
Whitehack Whitepaper, DM Reference Guide v.2

Still thinking of making some changes. Let me know if you see any errors or if something added may have utility for you.
