ET Australia Secondary College's stage 5 students enjoyed the Zoosnooz overnight stay at Taronga Zoo this week. They enjoyed exclusive access to the zoo after the general public had left. They were able to see animals from enclosures that are currently under construction as well as admire the city lights from the best view in Sydney. The following day they helped the keepers feed the farm animals and enjoyed a walk through before the public arrived. They also participated in a threatened species workshop where they learnt about conservation of animals such as the Bellinger Turtle and Corroboree Frog. This excursion links to the cross curricular theme of Change. Students are learning about ecosystems, sustainability and studying the movie Avatar and the zoo gave the opportunity for a hands on approach.

Throughout Term 3 ET Australia Secondary College Year 7 and 8 students played a literacy game, ‘Wazza wants a word’. Devised by one of our enterprising Teachers’ Assistants, Warren Henry, the game challenged students to explore dictionaries and introduce new words into their vocabulary and writing – for cash rewards. Continued usage of new words was encouraged through pop quizzes and an end of Term major prize was provided for the student who used the most new words throughout the Term. Congratulations to our $50 major prize winner, Calli Weavers, the 2017 ETASC Stage 4 Term 3 Literary Champion.

The National Parks and Wildlife Green Army team and the Central Coast Council Green Army team spent the day working together at Forresters Beach. The groups tackled sea spurge, a coastal weed which establishes dense infestations on upper beach and fore-dune areas. These infestations can disrupt public beach access and can damage near by plants through the toxicity of the milky sap released. Well done teams for ensuring our beaches are sea spurge free. Last week ET Australia Secondary College celebrated the end of Term 3 where students were invited to attend the 'Big Night In'. The 'Big Night In' was an all night event held at the school, offering the students the chance to have a sleep over, play games, watch movies or just simply dance the night away. It was a huge success and enjoyed by all.
