Anyone familiar with the population of the coastal Deep South will find these images familiar.

"I want to stir the perception that most of us have of a 'ginger' as a white Caucasian individual, potentially of Celtic descent," the French-born, London-based photographer told Mic. "As we struggle with issues of immigration, discrimination and racial prejudice, Mother Nature, meanwhile, follows its own course, embracing society's plurality and, in the process, shaking up our perceptions about origins, ethnicity and identity."
Forget everything you think you know about "gingers."

There will be a new chapter in the second edition of my DAM book on change management. I'll be citing a number of resources listed here.

This is super important and you should read it. The keynote from black hat addresses how the business of the internet has changed hands from our beloved freaks and geeks to the kids who used to go into finance.

I love everything about this.
Blackhat’s keynote speaker says it’s up to us to make sure the Net is our liberator, not our oppressor

We had a great two year run as a monthly meetup, but the ATL DAM meetup will be quarterly from here on out. Too many of our members were hired away!

I began my work life in England where I had 30 days leave a year plus personal days plus bank holidays. People planned their holidays months in advance and paid for them throughout the year and went away to lovely places. For the first several years we had a bar in our canteen. Until American business practices shut it down and we had to toddle off to the pub which was far more dangerous and involved crossing a major intersection. Heh.

When you left for holiday no one pitched a fit or acted like the world might come to a halt. The philosophy was that if you died they'd figure it out and why should holidays be any different.

When I got my first job in the US and they told me I'd have 10 days holiday, I laughed. I honestly thought they were joking.

Pregnancy leave is so much better I can't begin to tell you!
From VOX I was halfway through a job interview when I realized I was wrinkling my nose. I couldn't help myself. A full-time freelance position with a long commute, no benefits, and a quarter...

Cult Of The Entrepreneur...
"What often gets lost in these conversations is that the most common shared trait among entrepreneurs is access to financial capital—family money, an inheritance, or a pedigree and connections that allow for access to financial stability (and allow them to take risks).

My badge and coloring book from #saa15 - get your own copy of the coloring book at http://files.archivists.org/pubs/SAAColoringBook2015.pdf

It occurred to me this morning that the only conferences I attend, professional or otherwise, that doesn't include men in kilts are Digital Asset Management conferences. Also, the cons that are the least fun that I attend? Digital Asset Management conferences.

DAM takes itself too seriously, and that's a problem. Without the ability to laugh at ourselves, we deny ourselves an important stress relief valve. The items in the picture below say to archivists : Relax and enjoy your active role in your profession. What we do is important, and meaningful, but also really difficult sometimes. That's ok. We can get through this together, because we are a professional community that supports each other.

I wish I could say this more of DAM, and hopefully in the next decade we'll get to this point, with all the ribbons and jokes and love included.

Rejoice, reuse, reshare.
Earlier this week, Oxford's Bodleian Library announced that it had digitized a 550 year old copy of the Gutenberg Bible along with a number of other ancient bibles, some of them quite beautiful. Not to be outdone, the British Library came out with its own announcement on Thursday:
