Introducing RAIL: A User-Centric Model For Defining and Prioritizing Performance, by Paul Irish and Paul Lewis, on Smashing Magazine. http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2015/10/rail-user-centric-model-performance/
There’s no shortage of performance advice, is there? The elephant in the room is the fact that it’s challenging to interpret: Everything comes with caveats and disclaimers, and sometimes one piece of advice can seem to actively contradict another. Phrases like “The DOM is slow” or “Always use CSS animations” make for great headlines, but the truth is often far more nuanced. Take something like loading time, the most common performance topic by...

Visualization of Server Traffic is Like the Coolest Game of Pong

I have to say ... This is pretty mesmerizing.

Each little "ball" is a request to the server

On the left: the IP numbers from the users connecting around the world

To the right: The url's being served up

In the center: The "static calls being serviced by our front end

The brightness represents the speed with which the code written by our awesome developers delivers data (aided of course the great hardware)

Had any of the balls gone past to the right, that would have been a serve we couldn't return. Try that, Federer!

I went there this evening with my wife and 3 year old. We had a 2 topping pizza and a pasta dish.It was our first time there. The place was completely empty except for one bar patron. The service started out alright, but once we received our food that was the last we saw of any sort of service staff until it was time to go... I could hear them sitting there watching some sort of sporting event. Also, It was very muggy and stuffy in the place and i was quite sweaty by the end of the meal. As far as atmosphere goes, again it started out ok, but then once we got into the main dining room, the floors were all wood panel like at an old elementary school gymnasium and totally killed the italian vibe that I could see they were trying to pull off with the rest of their decor. I don't think we'll be returning. Sorry to leave a cruddy review, but hopefully they turn things around a bit, it has potential... they just need to head people's reviews and make some changes.

I've been there twice now. The sushi & sashimi were great. I've eaten at award winning sushi restaurants in Madison and this was right up there in quality. On both occasions I went with with a non sushi eater, so they ordered a chicken stir fry dish. I anticipated it to be sub par (im not sure why), but I was blown away by how good it was. The chicken was cooked perfectly, and the glaze was really tasty. Also they have a "Yum" sauce that you can add to your dish that went very well with pretty much all ordered items. I do have to make a special note though; The first time we went, my fiance' and I went alone and had a great experience. The second time we went, we took our < 1 year old daughter. The staff made us feel sooo awkward... Awkward enough that I made a special mental note to make mention of this to anyone with very small children whenever I had the chance. Upon being seated, multiple wait staff tried to grab our child out from my fiance's arms in a very forward and awkward way, and the awkwardness continued during our wait. Maybe it's a culture thing, as both staffers were Asian and perhaps in Asian culture it's a bit more acceptable to be more handsy with children, but my fiance' and I have been all over to public places and have had people come up and make googly faces and say things to our child, and that's never a problem, but this was over the top uncomfortable for us, enough to warrant special mention.

Park Plaza Pizza has been around for ages. Their food in general, is maybe best described as a guilty pleasure. You know the food will be greasy and cheesy, but it will be delicious. Their pepperoni pizzas are actually very unique, if you were to order pepperoni pizzas from the closest 50 pizza joints, you would be able to pick this pizza out from all the rest every time. They have a number of other items on the menu very similar to your standard bar food, but maybe a slight notch better than most bars.

I've had the prime rib twice, and a porterhouse on a different occasion. The prime rib is fantastic and I'd recommend it to anyone. I was able to try a couple bites of the fried chicken and it was a bit dry and fairly bland. The location is great, but parking can be a little bit of a pain if its busy. The place fills up pretty much every weekend, and its hard to move around in the bar area, there is an unfortunate lack of space. The dinner room is sectioned off well and it's usually a bit darker than the bar area so it has a more intimate feel, but again it's a little hard to move around when it's busy.
