DNS issues involving suncoastlug.org have been resolved. There will be a few lingering issues depending on how long the negative results are cached by caching name servers, but within a few hours everyone should be able to access our resources.

For the curious, the problem was that the NS records for suncoastlug.org pointed to a domain that itself doesn't resolve any more.

Big thanks to SLUG Treasurer Bill Davison (who holds the DNS keys) for his quick action in getting the NS records changed.

ATTENTION SLUG: suncoastlug.org is having some technical difficulties and is not resolving. This effects the SLUG site, IRC, and Mailing Lists. To connect to irc, please use irc.hardison.net using ssl over port 6697. More updates to follow as we resolve this issue.

If there's one thing that would force me to move @hardison.net off of google, this would be it...

TL;DR Google kills XMPP (Jabber) support for messaging in new Hangouts. #fail

So the new Google Hangouts will replace Google Talk as it seems. Which means no more XMPP (Jabber) support. There goes another open standard at Google. Where's my surprised face again?

"Google will be releasing a new communications product called Hangouts which users may choose to use instead of Google Talk. The new service does not support XMPP."

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5714557

"With Hangouts, Singhal says Google had to make the difficult decision to drop the very "open" XMPP standard that it helped pioneer."

http://mobile.theverge.com/2013/5/15/4318830/inside-hangouts-googles-big-fix-for-its-messaging-mess

"Old-School" Google Talk with working XMPP support will still be available but AFAICS it is moved to the Legacy box and might be shut down in the future.

I'm trying to figure out what kind of traffic goes to my blog from G+. If you don't mind, would you click the link below? (You'll be rewarded with a cute picture of me and Anne, if you do.)

Thanks!

When I played #dungeonsanddragons  as a kid, I always wanted to be a magic user, not because it was easy, but because it was hard. I died a lot in those days of d4 hit points and three worthless levels of cantrip spells before you got to do anything, but when a wizard survived and got powerful enough to melt goblins with fireballs... boy, was that awesome.

I don't play as much as I used to, and I haven't even run a game of my own or played in a regular campaign in a couple of years, but with the recent release of classic modules as PDFs, I feel the itch to run Basic or Player's Option rules... you know, for kids.

If I was going to play, though? I think I'd have to be a barbarian or fighter now, because I have fallen in love with the #d12 . It's such a beautiful die, and it just doesn't get any love at all (that's why I chose it for #Tabletop ). I know it's kind of weird to choose a class based on what kind of dice you'll be rolling, but it's where I find myself at the moment ... and I'm really okay with that.

...Hmmmm .... this makes me think that a +Geek & Sundry show where I run a classic D&D campaign using Basic rules -- maybe a modified module or series of modules or something like that -- for six or eight episodes would be pretty awesome.

A compassionate community will not be achieved only through prayer; I pray myself, but I accept its limitations. We need to take action to develop compassion, to create inner peace within ourselves and to share that inner peace with our family and friends. Peace and warm-heartedness can then spread through the community just as ripples radiate out across the water when you drop a pebble into a pond.

Another complete abuse of the system. Terrorism? For reporting animal cruelty? Disgusting. #twt
