I stayed up late to see the lunar eclipse. It was worth it, especially at the peak, when the moon looked like a barely glowing charcoal at the end of a BBQ. Really cool. I can understand why ancient people were so unsettled by eclipses. If I didn't know what caused them and couldn't predict them, I'd be freaked out.

I agree. Although working hard is important to success, having sufficient time off for leisure and personal matters is essential to our happiness, health, creativity, and —yes — long-term productivity.

There are some smart and educated people who use uncommon words because they know and appreciate the precise meanings of the words. There's nothing wrong with that.

But using uncommon words just to appear smart only creates a divide between people. Wise people care about the communication, not the words.

Captain America is a very well-executed, fast-paced action film with great fight scenes and visual effects. It also has an interesting plot with political themes that are very relevant to the current surveillance issues and the war on terror.

Unfortunately, like all of the post-Avengers Marvel films, it almost completely lacks character development and expressions of emotion from the characters, despite situations that should've provoked strong emotion. I felt like I was watching a video game. The characters are emotionally numb or, at least, stoic.

However, it is a great action film, and it presents significant developments in the Marvel universe. I recommend the film if you're a Marvel fan or if you enjoy action films. I just wish the film had taken more pauses between the action scenes to develop the characters, so I could feel empathy for them. Instead, I felt numb, like the characters.

Set-based design saves time by not committing to solutions before they are known to be good and necessary. Excellent article.

My credit union's password policy: Passwords must be 8-12 characters long (no longer), and they're case insensitive! Holy crap! Is it 1990?!? I normally use randomly-generated 30-character passwords consisting of letters, numbers, and special characters. You'd think a BANK would have better security policies.

Did you know that days are getting longer? Each day is a bit longer than the last, thanks to the moon. In fact, long ago, days used to be six hours long! You can learn about this and about many other fascinating things by listening to RadioLab!

Introduction
I'm a man with two brains. One brain is an engineer. The other brain is an artist. That's probably why I've been drawn to video games since I was 11. My career so far as been ruled by my engineer brain, and I've had a fairly successful career as a software engineer.

But my artist brain has been asserting dominance for the past few years, and I now want to making a living doing something that expresses my creativity. I want to make games for a living. Specifically, I want to make games that tell stories that have as much impact as a movie and as much depth as a novel.
