incentives aren't bad - poorly designed incentives are the problem.  people think they know what they are doing when they don't.

I'm so glad you all liked my wrestling mask suggestion so much!  I didn't think...um...wait.  This is all about the ponies, isn't it?

I’m thrilled to share that my first book, Lean HR, is now available on Amazon.  I really wanted to get it ready for all of you I will see on the conference circuit this year, and we made it with a couple of weeks to spare.

I’ll have more to say about the writing process another time, which has given me more material than I would have imagined.  Did you know I have very strong feelings about page gutters and font sizes?  Because apparently I do.

So check it out if you are into that kind of thing.  The Kindle version should be available shortly.  And if you happen to pick up a copy and see me somewhere, I will totally deface it by scribbling my name on a page of your choice.

Our SHRM Kickball game is Sunday.  We are achingly close to reaching our fundraising goal.  Please take a moment to check out the link and read the story.  We'd love to have your help!

A recovering IT geek, I focus my time on process improvement in HR. This may mean Lean projects, process redesign, leveraging technology or just pointing out the nonsense to which we too often become numb. I'm also deeply involved in social media, and can be found noodling about on LeanHRBlog.com.
Introduction

A recovering IT geek, I focus my time on process improvement in HR. This may mean Lean projects, process redesign, leveraging technology or just pointing out the nonsense to which we too often become numb. I'm also deeply involved in social media, and can be found noodling about on LeanHRBlog.com.

Having grown up in IT and Operations, being in HR is, at times, still an eye opening experience for me. On the other hand, it gives me a different perspective, I think, on the “traditional” approach. I’m a firm believer that everyone should spend some of their formative years in a function other than the one they choose as their career path.

I’ve been fortunate enough to be asked to serve as a writer, speaker, facilitator, and host for a number of events. I enjoy them all, and am always open to serve in these capacities for others. I can be contacted at Dwane.Lay@LeanHRBlog.com, on Twitter (@DwaneLay and @LeanHR) or on Facebook (facebook.com/dtlay and facebook.com/LeanHR).

Great winery, quiet setting and not in the crush of the Hermann crowds. Enjoyed grilled pizza made to order along with a fabulous Norton. Worth the trip to be sure!

Darn fine tacos in a very relaxed atmosphere, including a wandering musician. The green sauce is off the charts good. Fine beverage selection as well.

Nothing special, though you wouldn't know it from the prices. Sat at the bar to order take-out, was ignored for the first few minutes, then interrupted while they took an order from the phone. There seemed to be regulars that got better attention. They did a good job of making sure I don't become one of them.

Took a business team to dinner here, as everything else was closed. The menu wasn't very expansive, so I had hopes the selections would be first rate. They were good, not great. Portion sizes reasonable. Decent wine list. Decor was interesting. Service not terribly attentive, but par for the course in Paris. Dinner bill for five was over $300, including only on bottle of wine and a few soft drinks. OK in a pinch, but not close to being worth the money.

Very fresh, very tasty. For the area, not too pricy. Would eat there again...and likely to within the week!
