January 31st 2018 was the first time a blue moon, super moon and blood moon all coincided since 1866, over the course of the eclipse I ended up taking about 100 exposures.

I came across these enchanting toadstools out at Fairy Dell early in the morning, they where just over 1cm wide. I used my macro lens along with three extension tubes to get enough magnification. This lens setup, along with a wide aperture, meant that the photos had a very shallow depth of field. To overcome this and have all of the fungi in focus I ended up taking 30 photos, each focused slightly further into the scene, then focus stacking them in post.

This is the Kiyomizu Temple of Kyoto, Japan just after sunset. I would have loved to stay later to get a photo when the sky was completely dark, but the temple closes at 6.

The back streets of Gion, Kyoto look like they are from another world. This path leads up to the Kiyomizu-dera Temple which I visited on a different day. The photo was taken on a rainy night which created the most amazing light and reflections and also meant there was no one else around!

This is the Yasaka-no-to pagoda of Hokanji Temple. It was about a 3km walk in the rain to get to the temple, but thankfully the rain stopped just after I arrived. Because it had been raining there was no one around the streets and the light was amazing.

On the way up to the Senkō-ji Temple near Kyoto I saw this place. It was such a peaceful and beautiful scene that I had to stop and take a shot.

These are the incredible pillars of the Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine in Kyoto, Japan. The shrine was incredibly busy on the day I visited, so I had almost given up hope of getting a photo looking down the path with no people.

As we where leaving there was a break in the crowd and I managed to get the shot I was after!! The shrine climbs all the way to the top of the mountain, it's a tough walk but well worth the effort.

On the outskirts of Kyoto in Japan is this magnificent bamboo forest. I'd wanted to photograph this place ever since I saw pictures of it years ago! The bamboo in this forest is giant, it's almost like walking through another world.
