As he points out, no one can even notice this fact unless they have a lot of background. We need ways to communicate security tradeoffs accurately and persuasively to people who are inclined to trust their (misleading) intuition.

If there's one hopeful element here, it's that so many people are trying to prey on mistaken intuition: from the copyright lobby to the military. This sets up a decisive showdown -- which is not guaranteed to be won by the scientists, but at least all the scientific arguments will be present across the whole field of argument.
