In Metro-Detroit and thinking of having some home improvement work done? AVOID One Stop Home Improvement. In the past we have had work done (gutters, gutter guards and windows) and we where happy with the results. A sales rep (Patrick) contacted us about working on our kitchen (new floors, cabinets, etc. but it was going to be too expensive) we ended up agreeing to having One Stop replace our bath tub (the old one, original to our 72-year-old home) along with some tile work, we gladly agreed.
Then it gets ugly. Patrick disappears with a deposit check, fails to turn through our contract, is found and we're told that One Stop normally doesn't do this kind of job (they usually just slap a enclosure over an existing tub, but we had a contract claiming that they would replace) but they would honor the contract. And that the work could be done in one day with us using the new tub the next. How cool, right?
My wife and I have some tricky schedules (with work and the kids, you know how it can be. One of us would have to take a day off work so we could be home to oversee the project) so we endured a couple of months of 'can we do the job today!?!' type phone calls. Finally, the big day comes, the calendar is set and away we go. Not so fast: apparently the tile guy hadn't ordered the tiles, so we have a tub that we cannot use until the wall is finished. They'll call.
Or will they? Since the project began our calls have been ignored or returned reluctantly, we keep getting excuses as to why the work isn't being done and the timeline keeps getting moved back. So far we have gone from overnight to 'by Friday' (4 days) to 'next Friday.' So while I sit here waiting for the tiler guy to show up (3 hours late and counting) to at least put up mud board and cover the walls in plastic so we can use the tub I thought I'd share my humble opinion on One Stop Home Improvement and the services they claim to provide. Buyer beware.

"Hassle free home improvement" Well, all the hassle so far has been free, but the improvement to the home hasn't happened.
