A few thoughts on my blog today about the open letter signed by artificial intelligence experts around the globe pledging to focus A.I. research on ensuring that research will be focused on bringing wider societal good to the world as opposed to simple technological advancements.

“Science makes the world easier to live in. But it’s art that makes the world worth living in.” I’ve heard this comment (or a variation of it) a number of times over the past few years and it’s one I find myself...

New blog post today with a few thoughts on where ideas come from
Where do ideas come from? It’s a question that’s puzzled mankind throughout history. Ideas are the fuel of innovation, with creativity being a somewhat indefinable skill that has been lauded, misunderstood and yearned for in equal measure over the years....

In today's blog post, I've laid out a few of my thoughts on some of the issues raised by Paul Graham in his latest essay.
“If experts are wrong, it’s because they’re experts on an earlier version of the world” (Paul Graham) Most people agree that the world’s changing but few fully appreciate that the pace of change itself is continually accelerating. But that presents us...

My post today on how Bitcoin and block chain technologies are perfectly placed to improve some of the current weaknesses of the music industry
The prospect of a decentralised, definitive record of ownership as introduced by Bitcoin (the technology) is something that I find hugely exciting. Does that make me a nerd? Maybe. But if you’re anything like me, on the same day that...

A few thoughts from me in a new blog post about how blockchain technology could be vital architecture for the emerging Internet of Things, as outlined in IBM's recent 'Device Democracy - Saving the Future of the Internet of Things' paper.

#Bitcoin #blockchain
Back in September last year, IBM published a paper titled ‘Device Democracy: Saving the Future of the Internet of Things‘. It’s a fascinating document from a couple of angles – partly because of the simple promise that the Internet of...

A few thoughts on my blog tonight on the regulatory and legislative issues that drones could be facing in the future.
All the signs are there that this is going to be a breakthrough year for drones when it comes to bursting into the public consciousness. The Federal Aviation Authority in the U.S. was expected to bring out regulations on drones in December...

In the ‘good’ old days, a business would sell a new product based on its perception of what potential customers might want. A product or service would be designed, priced and shipped, and there would be precious little that you could do other than...

My blog post today looks at the announcement by Reddit that they're looking at issuing Reddit Notes, essentially a decentralised digital asset project to reward users in 2015 based on blockchain technology #Bitcoin
I was a latecomer to Reddit. I remember taking a quick look at it a few years ago and just not getting it. The self-styled ‘front page of the internet’ just seemed like a mess to me. But before long, I was a...

I wonder how many of us have sat in a public location like a coffee shop and used the public wifi on offer. Stab in the dark, I’d guess it’s north of 90% and that those numbers are getting bigger. Whilst businesses used to be hell-bent...

Digging into the intersection of creativity, knowledge and business
Introduction

I am passionate about entrepreneurship, disruptive technologies, the commercialisation of creative content and the potential for online collaboration to act as a conduit for the advancement of human knowledge - in essence: making things simpler, more relevant and, ultimately, more valuable.

I founded the Scottish Bitcoin Conference, run the Edinburgh Bitcoin Meetup and regularly give talks and commentary on the Bitcoin scene. I'm convinced we're on the cusp of a new age in society and business driven by block chain technologies and the decentralisation that technology now facilitates.

After a career helping startups, entrepreneurs and investors across the UK whilst juggling an MBA, I left the law to work with a range of businesses in developing powerful digital strategies.

As a consultant, my focus is first on helping management teams to understand how to leverage and adapt business models to gain competitive advantage in a modern digital environment.

I'm currently based in Edinburgh, Scotland.
