#itsprettysimple You need to take care of yourself, rest, and recuperate to ensure you are prepared for the bumps. (The pic is from a trip to San Sebastian Spain)

Great post from the amazing Bob Burg!
When most of us think of negotiation what might come to mind is closing a business deal, or perhaps a salary discussion with the boss or employee, or possibly even where to go for dinner.

They all certainly qualify as negotiations, and with relative amounts of pressure on us to do it correctly and get it right. And, while we’d all love to obtain the results we desire (while also helping the other person get what they want) imagine that the stakes are just a bit higher than...the deal, the salary, or the restaurant.

Instead, what if they were about life or death? Not figuratively. Literally!

This is what Lead FBI Hostage Negotiator, Chris Voss, now CEO of The Black Swan Group faced on a constant basis throughout his more than two decades of service in the FBI. Whether it was in Haiti negotiating for a hostage's release from "entrepreneurial" kidnappers, to the Philippines dealing with a notorious gang leader, to a bank robber with a panicky demeanor and an itchy trigger finger, today’s guest has negotiated in some of the most intense, pressure filled situations imaginable.

And, what he’ll tell you is that trying to force your will or mentally overpower the person you’re negotiating with is a recipe for disaster. That holds just as true in business.

In our our current episode of The Go-Giver Podcast titled, “Never Split The Difference” (also the title of Chris’ amazing and massively bestselling book) we’ll learn why listening; why understanding, why operating with emotional intelligence, is the most effective win/win negotiating strategy of all, both in hostage and business negotiations.

Listen in at http://bit.ly/2rFNH0E An absolutely fascinating discussion with Chris. Then be sure and pick up his book!
