Keep your toothbrush germ free!
1. Keep it off the counter when you're finished brushing.
2. Store it upright, inside a medicine cabinet if possible.
3. Don't share your toothbrush!
4. Don't use toothbrush covers unless they're specifically antimicrobial.
5. Change out old toothbrushes after being sick.
6. Keep your toothbrush away from the toilet. Flushing distributes particles through the air. Gross!

Can chewing gum be good for your teeth?
Chewing sugar-free gum can help your teeth! The act of chewing increases the saliva in your mouth, which helps neutralize acid and wash away food. More saliva also means more calcium and phosphate delivered to your teeth, helping to strengthen tooth enamel.
While not a substitute for brushing and flossing, studies have shown that chewing sugarless gum for 20 minutes following meals can help prevent tooth decay.

Bad breath is common for people of all ages. While some bad breath is normal, bad breath may also be a symptom of a larger problem. Five common causes and their solutions:
1. Smelly food. Try rinsing with water or chewing sugar-free gum. It’s also said that a small dab of mustard will kill the smell quickly!
2. Medication. Sometimes medicines like antihistamines will cause you to produce less saliva, making your mouth dry. Try dinking more water to stay hydrated and wash away odor causing bacteria.
3. Dairy. While dairy is good for your teeth, it can also cause bad breath because bacteria love to feed on the high levels of amino acids. Keep eating dairy, but be sure to brush and floss regularly as well.
4. Mouth breathing. Breathing through your mouth, especially when you have a cold, can cause bad breath because it dries out your mouth. If you regularly breathe through your mouth while sleeping you may need to see a physician for sleep apnea, snoring or asthma.
5. Gum disease & plaque. Your mouth may smell because it’s unhealthy. Bacteria allowed to grow between teeth and around your gums may be causing damage that needs to be treated. Aside from regular brushing and flossing, staying on top of regular dental check-ups is essential. Is your family caught up? Why not give us a call and schedule an appointment today?

Plaque is the sticky film that is constantly forming on your teeth. Bacteria live in plaque and create acids that attack your teeth and gums. If not removed by brushing and flossing, plaque hardens to create calculus, also called tartar. Be sure to brush for 2 minutes, twice a day and floss daily!

Saturday was National Tooth Fairy Day...which got us thinking, "What do you think the Tooth Fairy really does with all those teeth?"

We found this fun “mockumentary” aimed at parents and young children that gives one take on what actually happens to all the teeth. Watch and then comment below to let us know what you and your children think happen to them: http://youtu.be/2IiGRZTB-6A

Do your kids like broccoli?
Broccoli is full of vitamin C, vitamin E and Calcium...essential nutrients for healthy teeth. Plus, the iron found in broccoli helps to form an acid-resistant barrier that can protect the enamel of your teeth.
And the best way to eat this dental superfood? Raw!

When your 6-year old asks you when his next dentist visit is, you know you have the right doctor. We've been going to Dr. Sotto for at least 3 years now, and it is always professional and nurturing for me and caring and enjoyable for my son. Luckily, we have not had to have any unpleasant procedures as of yet but so far, the experience has been outstanding. Thank you for all you do for your patients and their parents!

This was such a fantastic experience with my 5 year old. The doctor was great and the nurses were extremely patient and wonderful with our daughter.

My daughter is, unfortunately, one of "those" kids whose teeth continue to deteriorate no matter how careful we are with her hygiene. By the age of 3 she has already had 4 teeth pulled and recently underwent sedation at Dr. Sotto's practice to repair further damage to her molars. Although her experiences with dentistry have understandably made her very fearful, I must commend Dr. Sotto and his staff on this most recent experience. Knowing that dental sedation is risky for children, I was very nervous about the procedure, but we were walked through all the preparation and expectations very carefully. The anaesthesiologist was top-notch - his level of experience clearly evident in how he answered all our questions, taking as much time as we needed even though they were running a little behind schedule. The procedure went totally smoothly and we left with a sleepy little girl who remembers nothing of any of it, for which I could not be happier. We sincerely hope that no more of this type of work will be necessary, of course, but meanwhile I am very happy with the professionalism and courtesy of all the staff, along with Dr. Sotto's skill and efficiency. It made a trying experience far more bearable.

It's every parents dream for their children to actually be excited about visiting their dentist twice a year. My children LOVE their trips, and it's all because we have chosen the best! Thank you so much to Dr. Sotto, and his staff, for making my children enjoy their experiences. The staff is beyond friendly, the facility is the cleanest I have ever been to, and the doctor is the best around! He, unlike most, takes the time to make my children feel comfortable, by chatting and goofing off, and that alone helps prevent their fear from rising. He's not their dentist, he's their friend. We will be visiting in two weeks, and my children are literally counting down the days! Thank you, again, for being the best in town! My husband and I are grateful to have an amazing group of people, who obviously love their job, to care for our children.

I had the same experience as the previous reviewer. My daughter is 3 years old, I went there two times. At the last check-up, the doctor spent literally 3 seconds to examine my daughter, didn't even say hi to me. My daughter had a tooth that needed to be filled which was pretty noticeable. He said to come back in 1-3 months for treatment, and the next appointment is available only after 4-5 months. She didn't have it at her previous check-up (unless he missed to diagnose it) 6 months ago, I'm sure it will get bigger 4 months later from now. I am finding another dentist. The staff are wonderful, and they lure the kids with goody bags and toys, no wonder kids like them, but I'm going there to receive treatment not goody bags. 2 weeks later - So I went to a different dental office (out of town but famous), Dr was able to fix my child's tooth within an hour on the day of initial visit. Explained what was going on to me for at least 5 minutes. I asked Dr. Sotto's office to send the x-rays to the new office as I did not want to take them again, call them 2 times and the new office called them as well days before visit. They did NOT send it and I had to pay another $42 (out of pocket with insurance applied) for the x-rays. I had my child take it again as I did not want to wait forever at the office for Dr. Sotto's office to email the x-rays, however, it is very annoying when I already paid for them just two weeks ago.

We are sorry that you did not receive the attention from the Dr you would like. We are always available to answer any questions you might have regarding your child. Our dental practice has been blessed with consistent growth through the recommendations of our existing patients. Unfortunately, this has effected the time Dr Sotto has to spend with each individual patient. To allow us to consistently provide the highest level of attention we are excited to welcome Dr Allison Miller to the practice. Dr Miller has begun seeing patients and will join the practice full time this year.

I have taken my son (3 y.o) to this office 4 times. The staff are wonderful, and the office is great. So why only 3 stars? Of the times the Dr actually examine my son, he walked in, spent roughly 30 seconds to examine my son and walked out. Not once did he greeted me or say good bye before he walk out. He never asked me if I have any question or concern. When I talked to my sister in-law who used to take her daughter (6.y.o) there, she and her friends had the same experience. Anyway, I like a Dr. who actually care to ask if I have any question. As parent, we always have a question or two.

I have been taking my two kids here for several years. The office staff is always amazing and willing to help. If I have a question about my insurance they help me. The assistants in the back are wonderful. They are terrific with my children even the little guy, who isn't always easy. Dr. Sotto has always showed genuine concern and care for my children. They love going and that make this mama happy. Thank you Dr. Sotto and staff for all your great work. Keep it up

I brought my son, Elias to Dr. Sotto for his very first dental visit and we couldn't be more happy with the experience. Dr. Sotto and his staff were friendly and informative regarding Elias' dental health and needs moving forward. At 4 years old, Elias was initially scared to visit the dentist, now he can't wait to return!
We have worked with Dr Gordon and all of the Doctors at Pediatric Associates of Orlando since we opened our doors in 2008. The literally set the standard for excellence in Central Florida. In fact, I trust Pediatric Associates of Orlando so much that I take my own children there.
