Toni Morrison unquestionably deserves this honor.
Morrison will be one of 13 recipients who are honored this year by President Obama.

Is Justice Colorblind?
Short answer: no. Check out this Duke University study, it's really interesting. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the idea that just having one black person in the jury pool (not even necessarily on a jury) can have such a significant effect on conviction rates.

this is the truth, white bias towards their own is the truth, Harvard and university of Virginia have been studying this topic for years.  White bias toward white being right is ingrained in the mind, from a young age.  Not so much burning crossing in a lawn, but dinner or down time talk around their own or close friends is the truth.  An underground hatred no one will ever discover if you are not a part of their circle; you would never know their true feelings.  Its politically right for no one but your family or close friends to know your bias and worst of all some don't even realize that they are this way.  Teaching their children unconsciously that white is always right.

Sybrina Fulton (@SybrinaFulton), Trayvon Martin's mother, came and spoke at Howard University School of Law today.  She gave a moving speech and spoke candidly, from her heart.

This is great. DC, as with the rest of the country, has a long, long way to go, but this is a step in the right direction. All people have value. All people deserve respect. #TransRespect

It's amazing to me how 'mainstream' these conversations are becoming.
To some, the idea of labeling young children as transgender is shocking. But to a growing number of parents and psychiatrists, it makes perfect sense.

It is great.  But in the same way I measure the civil rights of other minorities, it's an issue until it's no longer newsworthy.

There are many way the LGBT rights movement is like the civil rights movement and women's rights movement. There are many ways that make it a tough comparison.

Let's take the best strategies of the past and push them forward while recognizing the weaknesses and leave them behind.

You don't have to be an Obama supporter to want truth and honest debate in politics.

I stopped eating here the day a manager thought it was necessary to follow a group of my classmates around and then interrogate my friend when she asked for condiments. The food was never good and it was always overpriced. It's location was the only appealing attribute. I don't miss it.

Possibly my favorite restaurant in DC. The Woodland's has a rotating buffet and a regular menu so there is always something you will enjoy. The food is absolutely delicious. I have never eaten anything from the Woodland's that I haven't liked. Even my vegetarian-skeptic friends will eat here; that's how good it is.

Bethesda Bagels has some of the best bagels in DC. What makes a "good" bagel is highly contested, but I have consistently been satisfied with Bethesda's. However, this location leaves a lot to be desired. It is a rather small store and constantly feels crowded. Also, the coffee is terrible.

Gone are the days of driving across town in a ZipCar to pick up industrial-sized bags of dog food. The staff is always friendly and ready to answer any questions I may have. One woman in particular actually helped me assess an issue with my dog's diet... I took her advice and the problem was solved! Apart from the small size, this is a great addition to NoMa.

Dr. Levin and his staff are amazing. I was referred to Dr. Levin by another DC practitioner and I could not be more impressed. When I arrive on time for an appointment, I never have to wait. The office is conveniently located, bright, and always clean. Everyone on Dr. Levin's staff is friendly and welcoming. The office handles insurance issues without problems. When I had to have additional work done, Dr. Levin's office referred me to an excellent periodontist. I highly recommend Dr. Levin.

I would have been better off writhing in pain on my bathroom floor. I went to MedStar for an emergency and waited for over an hour to be placed in a dimly lit, dingy room. A NA came to do an initial screening, barely looked at me, and told me the doctor would be with me shortly. An hour later, the same NA returned with a prescription for extra strength ibuprofen and an antibiotic. The next month I received a bill in the mail for both the hospital's services and a separate bill for the doctor's services (a doctor who never saw me). When I went to a helpful doctor I was told not to even bother filling the prescriptions. TLDR: unfriendly, dirty, charges for services not performed, don't waste your time or money
