Some dryer problems can be managed by do-it-yourself fixes using a few basic tools and some technical knowledge. With a screwdriver, a ratchet set, and a multimeter (or continuity tester) you might be able to handle some small repairs. However, if you don’t know the workings of the machine, it’s best to call the professionals.

Remember when you first decided to build a house? Remember the excitement of driving by and seeing the big hole in the ground, the foundations, the walls, and now, finally, a finished product? The contractors are gone, the paint has dried, it is plumbed and wired — and so are you. You walk through the house, enjoying the smell of fresh paint and carpet. Maybe it’s a hot day and you flip on the air, breathing deeply the exhaust from those brand-new air ducts… and you think about all those sweaty builders, the sawdust, the drywall, the paint chips, the sheet rock mud… Wait a minute! How clean are your “new” air ducts?

Ductwork throughout your home delivers cool or heated air into living spaces. It can also return stale air to your HVAC system. Many homeowners forget to clean and maintain their air ducts because they are hidden from view. Consistently maintain your ducts and have them cleaned regularly to keep them operating efficiently. If you are running air conditioning and notice some rooms are still warmer than others, you could have dirty ductwork. Over time, dust, smoke residue, debris, and seasonal changes affect the build up inside your ductwork surfaces.

Some business owners may wonder why the #OfficeVentilationSystem needs regular attention. With the weekly costs of housekeeping, utilities, and day-to-day business, duct cleaning could seem like an extravagance. However, a work environment with poor ventilation can be hazardous to employees and can potentially cause damage to computers and machinery. Employees who are subjected to everyday ventilation hazards often suffer from health problems and have productivity issues. Have your office ventilation system cleaned professionally, and breathe easier.

Current Ontario building codes require duct sealant to be applied at time of installation; unfortunately this leaves many homes with existing ductwork only partly or completely un-sealed. In a typical house, with an un-sealed duct system, about 20 to 30 percent of the air is lost due to leaks, holes, and poorly connected ducts. This will cause your system to run longer and more often than necessary, resulting in higher utility bills and difficulty keeping the house comfortable.
