This CBS story will resonate with many moms this Mother's Day and beyond. "Research Shows Pattern to Mother Daughter Battles: Human Behavior Expert Debuts New Book to Help Mothers Choose and Win Quarrels" http://www.newschannel10.com/story/31909945/research-shows-pattern-to-mother-daughter-battles-human-behavior-expert-debuts-new-book-to-help-mothers-choose-and-win-quarrels

February is American Heart Month and while most people focus on Valentine’s Day and health with the American Heart Association, another aspect of the awareness lies in relationships — the one you have with yourself as well as those you have with others. Peyton Manning of the Denver Broncos, Super Bowl 50 winner, said it well when he commented about his personal priorities after the win: “I’ll take some time to reflect,” Manning said when asked if Super Bowl 50 is the end. “I got a couple priorities first. I’m going to go kiss my wife and my kids. … I'm gonna say a little prayer and thank the Man upstairs for the great opportunity. Take care of those things first.”

As usual, work family life balance has been observed throughout October. With Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, Paul Ryan and others making the issue the centerpiece of their conversations,  it's finally getting the national attention it deserves.  My doctoral dissertation showed that men desire time with family over promotions and career moves. It's great to see those findings in action on a national level.

However, it's not always easy to win the war of balancing roles across life and work, but, here are a few tips:

Being able to identify red flags for an imbalanced life such as being short fused with others and easily frustrated can be managed by keeping one day of the week free of business as usual and spending a whole day doing activities like taking the time to reflect on people and things you’re grateful for, spending time in nature and praying as well as engaging in activities that renew and rejuvenate such as reading and exercising. Those are great ways to stay on top of the work-family balance tug of war. Faith and spirituality also helps you sense when you need to refocus and seek more balance across your family and work life as well as to realize your God-given potentials.
