Especially if you grew up with restriction around food, if you are zoning in to find the best food plan for yourself while limiting some or many foods and ingredients, you may feel "deprived." It's a hard place to be; I know because I have felt deprived many times. Just yesterday I was riding my bike around downtown searching for one food after the next that wasn't on my food plan. I was looking for satisfaction and never found it. With each food that did not fulfill me on a deeper level, I searched for the next. There are so many dangerous food-like products that we desperately want to stay away from; our intellect knows better, our body knows better, and yet the cravings continue to tap us on the shoulder. Sometimes you just have to surrender and call it a day... a day in a life. What do YOU do when deprivation calls? How do YOU satisfy yourself?

30-Day Wake/Eat/Chew practice... day 29. When adversity (difficulty, challenge...) arises, we are faced with choice. Sometimes the moment happens so quickly that we are not aware of the choices we have. In the mirror of your own shadows, you may face addiction, debilitating limiting beliefs, and dis-ease (distance from ease). In the reflection of others you may crash into anger, judgment, aggression, and oppression. When it's time to "face the music," at the end of the day or the end of a breath, all circles lead us back to love and compassion. For freedom, deep relief, inner peace, and surrender, all we can do is give love and visualize well-being. No matter how murky the waters may be, this becomes the only path worthy of our attention. How do YOU walk it?

30-Day Wake/Eat/Chew practice. Consistency is queen. She moves mountains and produces incredible harvests. She will take you to those "aha" moments you long for and turn the tide when you are not even looking. What fuels consistency; what keeps her going? Persistence. This one has a kick in her step, an obvious edginess. She is ready and willing and believes in her pursuit without question. Persistence does not allow doubt to sit at her table. Where does she get her power? Desire. More deep than wide, desire plants roots and breathes life into them in every moment. She sees the sprouts when they are not yet visible; she envisions the magnificent bloom. With the unending support of persistence and consistency, desire lives in tune with her heart and spirit's calling. In what ways are desire, persistence, and consistency working in YOUR life?

30-Day Wake/Eat/Chew practice... day 9. We take on and take hold of a 30-day practice to go deeper, become better, and move closer to our wellness potential. All good intentions... In my imperfect attempt to wake daily at 6:15am, eat only at specified times, and chew food until liquid, a heightened awareness shows me the real mission—acceptance and self-love. This is my true center point; all paths and destinations leading inward toward the breath. The deeper my level of acceptance and self-love for whatever my moment looks like, the more authentically I am able to love and accept you. What is YOUR center point?

30-Day Wake/Eat/Chew practice... day 5. Every town, city, state, and neighborhood has a specific culture, and in fact, many cultures and rhythms. Surfing and everything "beach" is a dominant culture where I live in Santa Cruz, CA. While I don't surf, I do "beach." Cold rushing water, hot sand, crackling-under-my-feet-seaweed, majestic rocky cliffs, and crashing waves in repetition support my healing process because she is bigger than me; she takes me. I recognize my privilege in being able to choose this place. I know that everyone doesn't have access to a preferred living environment or the gift of choice. What do you recognize in your surrounding environment and how can you use it as a tool for deeper healing?

30-Day WakeEatChew practice... day 2. Wake up at 6:15am for morning ritual, eat at specific times, not mindlessly in between, and chew food until it is liquid. Daily as I ease into my AM meditation, I "think/speak" a quote by Martia Nelson, "To the depth of my being more than anything else today I choose to experience the love that I am." When resentment arises the way it has over the past 3 days, embodying these words calls for deep practice. There is no point in just saying them; I need to breathe them in deeply, visualize deeply, and let it all out... deeply.

So I sat as long as I needed to and dug in. "To the DEPTH (deep breath) of my being, more than anything else today, I CHOOSE (another deep breath) to experience the LOVE that I am." And with arms raised I visualize DEPTH (air filling my lungs), CHOOSE (a warm wind blowing toward me), and LOVE (a light rain w/ white orchids falling down on me). Because this is what I need to do to heal.

After a one hour writing session I knew I needed to move my body. I took off for my AM walk/yoga/squats/bench-overlooking-the-ocean-pushups routine. I sailed down steps to the foot of the shore because I needed to splash salty ocean water on my face and arms to experience out of the ordinary sensation. I am using my tools here, folks. That is the message I am sharing. So what are YOUR tools when you just need to work "unpleasant" through and out of your system? What's your magic?!

So often we forget about the love; the nurturing and tending to that we all need regularly... We forget about it because we are driven, busy, and focused on outcomes. We forget about it because it is a practice, and practice calls for attention, action, and consistency. In a tired state, we may resist practicing on ourselves, undervaluing the simple, pure sake of our well-being. It only takes a moment to make a new decision. How will YOU love and nurture yourself today and continue in daily practice?

30-Day Wake/Eat/Chew practice... day 28. There is a tendency to over-focus on what we eat. It makes sense given the plethora of dis-ease upon us as a culture. With toxicity running rampant in our food, food-like products, water, household products, and air, who wouldn't be concerned? When we are "sick," we just want to heal. Just as important as what we eat is how we eat... our eating behaviors. Are you eating on the go, in the car, while on the phone, T.V., or internet? Are you gulping down hunks of food blind to the fact that you are hindering healthy digestion? Sit down for heaven's sake and enjoy your meal. No time? No excuse. Make time, stretch time, get creative. Become extremely present with each bite you consume and give thanks. It matters!

30-Day Wake/Eat/Chew practice... day 11.  When my father descended to the spirit world 19 years ago, I removed this cactus from his outside deck. I have relocated a handful of times since then and it has continually adapted to the changes. As humans we have the ability to be proactive (rather than reactive) in making adjustments to food plans, body movement routines, and stress-reduction tools. In the past I have tended to get stuck trying to align myself with something I originally created. Now more and more, I hear my intuition and edit. Because I co-create my own map, I shifted from a 6:15am wake up to 6:30am. Following the clock for 6 meal times (every 3 hours) became chaotic so I adjusted it to 3 meal times with the option to eat in between as needed (hunger-needed, not oh-well-might-as-well-need-a-distraction-needed.) How might YOU shift, twist, or turn today in a way that supports your highest well-being?

30-Day Wake/Eat/Chew practice... day 8. Wake up at 6:15am daily to dive into my morning ritual, eat at specific times (every 3 hours) while paying attention to my level of hunger, and chewing food until liquid (aids digestion immensely) which means slowing way down.  As we experiment with various food plans and body movement routines, whatever our desires may be—eliminate symptoms, heal dis-ease, balance weight, or simply feel better—we stay at a disadvantage if we're not practicing stress-reduction daily. Stress is like processed sugar—legal, insidious, addicting, and invisible. It raises blood pressure and blood sugar, activates cortisol, taxes adrenal glands, and stores unnecessary fat. How will you combat the stress response today? Walking, resting, listening to music, meditating, calling a friend or mentor, sipping herbal tea, or taking a hot bubble bath... What works for you?

30-Day Wake/Eat/Chew practice... day 3. Doing a 30-day practice of any kind is not about perfection. Rather, the intention is to ignite and infuse awareness that will create an opening. The opening allows you to gather information about yourself and the environment around you. It is an opportunity to learn, grow, and pivot.

Did I wake up at 6:15am this morning as "planned?" No, I woke up at 7:00. I went to sleep on the late side and needed the extra sleep. Did I eat my meals so far at the times my schedule suggests? No, each meal has been about an hour later. Makes sense because my day started later. All okay... Have I been mindful and intentional in chewing my food thoroughly until liquid? Yes, for the most part and sometimes I remember a few bites in.

Without being perfect, I am on track and I am tracking. I KNOW I will receive value from this practice in the areas I am focused on AND... in areas unknown. Un-envisioned caverns filled with gems, specifically designed for me will reveal themselves because it is the nature of this process. Are you ready to receive YOUR gems? What will you focus in today?

30-day WakeEatChew practice... day Uno. My 30-day raw/living foods & lifestyle clearing was profound because it created tons of space for the un-envisioned to enter. I am staying on this train with a new 30-day 3-part practice which starts today. Guided by intuition, I chose 3 areas to infuse with high-focus, ritual, and commitment that I believe can lift me to new levels of well-being in body, mind, and spirit. Part 1: Wake up daily at 6:15am for morning ritual (meditation, gratitude practice, visualization, blessing reading, and a bit of journaling). Part 2: Eat at specific times of the day (right now set at every 3 hours) without grazing/mindless eating in between. Part 3: Chew my food until liquid or as close as possible (eliminates bloating, slows down eating, and brings in mindfulness).   I welcome you to jump on this train with whatever YOU want to infuse. Who's with me? What will you co-create?
