It's been a while since I have posted here. I was intentionally taking a break from keeping up with social media and trying to do better with keeping up with actual real live people! ICYMI: We sold our house and moved from the gulf beaches of southwest Florida to the foot of the Beautiful Blue Ridge mountains in Virginia. We bought 12 acres out in the country and will be raising our kids and hopefully raising some hops on our farm too! I'm in SC this week for the holidays with Family and I went a little crazy at the beer store today. I felt this would be a good one to share as my first post back into the group. Cheers to all my long lost beer friends! I started with the Extrovert IPA from +LeftHandBrewery and it's really pretty great!

Picked up a sixer of +Sixpoint Brewery resin and I think I was deceived by the packaging. As a hop head I always check for a packaged date or best by date when I'm beer shopping. I chose this particular sixer because the best by date said BB17APR2016 yet when I tried one it tasted old to me. So looking at the bottom of the can from the same pack says BB17APR2015 - there's my problem. There's a year difference between the two dates - was it a typo???

I'll be brewing my first attempt at a stout on Black Friday. This is the beginning prep for what I'm calling Continental Breakfast Stout. My plan is to use ingredients from all the continents (Well except for Antarctica - not even sure what I could do with that) and add it to an oatmeal stout.

I've been planning on brewing this one for a long time and I'm glad to finally get it going. I keep opening the jar and the smell is heavenly.

I'm infusing (edit) 1 cup of bourbon with French oak chips, chiles de arbol, cinnamon sticks and a vanilla bean. On Friday I'll add cocoa nibs and coffee to the infusion and let it steep for another week before adding it all to my secondary. If all goes well it should rest for two weeks before bottling and be ready to drink just in time for Christmas.

I plan on making this a Black Friday tradition.

Cheers!

I ended up buying an aeration stone, valve(torch), O2 tank and some tubing all for just under $30 which was cheaper than any of the options I was shopping for online.

Had to cut the end of the torch off and used 3/8" ID tubing to connect it all. It's not pretty but it works!

I'm looking into oxygenation systems and curious what you guys/gals are using. I'm leaning towards systems like this http://www.morebeer.com/products/oxygenation-partial-system.html where you use a disposable O2 tank vs the aquarium pump variety. But I would rather hear from those with experience.

I spent the day at ikea with the fam and then rewarded myself with a pit stop at +Coppertail Brewing Co. To fill a growler before heading home. This place looks amazing and I can't wait to come back for a proper visit. The free dive IPA was on point!

Fresh hop IPA carbed and cleaned up nicely. I used raw coconut sugar to prime the bottles which added a deeper flavor than I was expecting. It's somewhere between lagunitas sucks and Sierra's celebration ale.
