-Continuously-curated learning content and activities
-Formative feedback
-Multiple pathways to diverse goals
-Flexible accreditation

Learning that involves containers and pathways is still based on worn out teaching methods or a pushing of knowledge from a teacher to a student. Ever tried to push a chain?

When people (notice I did not write students) are allowed for find and then pursue their passion this turns into pull learning. Picture a young kid in a gym as they spot that climbing rope anchored to the gym ceiling. You can’t stop that 8 or 10 year old kid who has decided the ceiling is his focus.

The minute you turn rope climbing into a competition or a race you wind up leaving some kids behind. Successful learning that will leave no child behind is not a race and turning learning into a race or competition during formative years is bound to create winners and losers. We all lose when this happens.

Instead of continuing with language that includes words like curriculum and accreditation that perpetuates the notion of teaching and testing, help teachers learn how to become tour guides and coaches.

They will point out to learners items of interest like core academic pieces and connections to items like the humanities and anthropology. They will do this as learners aim higher and higher on that rope that guides them towards mastery and excellence around their individual and person passion.

Learners are able to learn on their own and this process is made more efficient by have guides and coaches who know how to apply their specific fields of excellence to many different real world use cases. Use cases in this case is whatever a student has locked onto and climbing towards.

Learning today is all about demonstrating what one can do. Knowing a bunch of information as factory education is built around has almost no value. Too many teachers don’t know how to use their own personal knowledge for purposes that change outcomes for all. If you are a teacher the only changed outcome that matters today is helping motivate students while guiding them as they learn how they can take knowledge and use that knowledge for their own changed outcomes.

Personal and self-driven learning powered by content located online will by default provide curated content. That is the direct result of personal learning around passion interests.

The marketplace will handle accreditation. We don’t need institutional gatekeepers providing a thumbs up or thumbs down as signals of successful learning\mastery. Again when their is a personal passion as a focus at the top of a rope, excellence comes along for a free ride.

Coaches and guides can certainly help make the climb much faster but self driven intrinsic motivation worked beautifully up until the late 1800’s when factory education along with all of its extrinsic motivators and forced compliance were put in place. It was factory teaching that turned learning into a single path with college being the final stop along that path. If you want multiple pathways to diverse goals then we have to dismantle all factories of educations.
