These are the notes for my presentation to the Church of Divine Guidance Thursday Night Prayerline in our study of the spirit of heaviness. Tonight's presentation on excessive mourning acknowledges that we all grieve and mourn the loss of a loved one. However we can grieve or mourn to the extent that it affects our ability to function and in some cases affects both our physical and mental health. When that happens we can turn to the Scripture which offers us so much comfort, encouragement and victory. When necessary we should also seek professional help when our reactions to loss result in a complicated grieving process. Complicated grief is a chronic, heightened state of mourning. This is called complicated grief (CG). Pre-existing mental health conditions, multiple stressors, emotional dependency, or substance abuse issues complicate the grieving process and increase the likelihood of a complicated bereavement disorder that may necessitate professional treatment. The audio of the presentation in included in the notes.

These are the notes to the Tuesday Night Bible Study at Church of Divine Guidance. It is the third in my series of studies on stress, anxiety, worry, and depression. The audio recording of the study is included at the end of the notes.

Do You Have A Victim Mentality?
● Do you feel that you're living with an impossibility?
● An insurmountable challenge that you’re powerless to change?
● Maybe it's a life long dream that has never come true.
● Maybe it’s a chronic pain, maybe a wall you’ve slammed into in your career.
Whatever it is, you’ve run out of options. No pastor, no professional, no friend—not even you, yourself—can bring the change that’s needed. You’re stuck. You feel like you're a victim of all the bad that can happen in life. Be careful you may be developing a victim mentality.

The Church of Divine Guidance Sunday Morning Adult Bible Study Group studying the book The Daniel Prayer: Prayer That Moves Heaven And Changes Nations By Anne Graham-Lotz.

The Daniel Prayer is born deep within your soul, erupts through your heart, and pours out on your lips, words created by and infused with the Spirit of God quivering with spiritual electricity. It’s really not an everyday type of prayer. It’s a prayer birthed under pressure. Heartache. Grief. Desperation. It can be triggered by a sudden revelation of hope. An answer to prayer, a promise freshly received, a miracle that lies just over the horizon.

The Daniel Prayer. It’s a commitment to pray until the prayer is answered. It’s not easy. It requires time. Energy. Sacrifice. It involves reading and pleading God's promises. It’s motivated by a wholehearted love that’s willing to suffer, to repent, to sacrifice—to do whatever it takes to get an answer.

These are the notes to Session 9 of the study - Prevailing In Prayer...Answered Ultimately.

Daniel got an immediate answer but it wasn't the ultimate answer. Because the Daniel Prayer is a cry for freedom the ultimate answer is Jesus.

Daniel 9:20-23, 26 (NKJV) 20 Now while I was speaking, praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God, 21 yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, reached me about the time of the evening offering. 22 And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, "O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you skill to understand. 23 At the beginning of your supplications the command went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision: 26 "And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

While you are waiting God will somehow keep you encouraged. It could be by a scripture, a morning devotional, a sermon, or by something a friend or family member, or even a stranger says. In Daniel's case it was an angel.

These are the notes to the CDG Tuesday Night Bible Study on 8-21-18. This study is a follow up to last Tuesday's Study, "When Your World Has Been Turned Upside Down". That study discussed how we Christians should respond when it feels like the world is closing in on us. Nothing is going right and it feels like our prayers are bouncing off the ceiling and falling down to the floor. Nobody hears our prayers but us. The study encourages us to remember that although it appears that God isn't listening, or can't answer our prayers He still loves us and has left reminders of His love. What we need to do is continue the trust Him and believe that He will come through on every promise. However having waited and waited and waited what if the answer never comes? Can you dare to believe God will still keep his promise, even if you don’t get to see it during your time on earth? Is it possible that you might grow so intimate with God that you’re able to keep loving and serving him despite your disappointment? These are the notes to Session 7 of the study - Pleading With Clarity..

We don’t have to know specifically how or what to pray in order to submit to our Father’s guiding whisper. Sometimes we’re intimidated to pray beyond the limits of what we can imagine or understand. But God knows what’s ahead and how He wants to answer and use us.

Romans 8:26-27 ERV Also, the Spirit helps us. We are very weak, but the Spirit helps us with our weakness. We don’t know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit himself speaks to God for us. He begs God for us, speaking to him with feelings too deep for words. God already knows our deepest thoughts. And he understands what the Spirit is saying, because the Spirit speaks for his people in the way that agrees with what God wants.

These are the notes to the CDG Tuesday Night Bible Study on 8-14-18. This is the second Bible Study, with a sermon sandwiched between them, that the Holy Spirit has given me for the church. We are to face the fact that Christians can and do worry, become anxious, stressed, and depressed. It is something that can be used by the enemy to create guilt and doubt to disrupt the relationship between God and the believer. We should talk about it, see what the scriptures say about it and how with the help of the Holy Spirit to deal with it.
