I've just published the numbers on gender and careers in L&D on LinkedIn. They're pretty awful.

Lots to think about here, and thanks for the reference to @AbhijitBhaduri's blog, which sounds spot on. I have two initial reactions.

First, "Specialization over generalization" is absolutely right, especially in L&D. We definitely need deep skills and expertise. However, when a world is as fast changing as it is today, agility also demands that people have a broad understanding of their field and an ability to adapt. After all, if your area of specialism is under threat what will do you? You can ignore the change, you can specialize further and excel, or you can adapt - possible out of your area of specialism. To do the latter you will need a good understanding of the world beyond it.

My second reflection: today's VUCA world demands we become comfortable with ambiguity. Volatility, Uncertainty and Complexity all existed in traditional operating models, and have simply increased in today's world. The rise of Ambiguity is something new. It means that the old reliance on certainty is gone and to deal with that we need a new way of operating. As you say "Dealing with ambiguity is the name of the game", and I think you've made a great case that the best response is an agile one.
