From a recent trip to Lake Conestee Nature Park in SC. The morning sun lights up green vegetation that covers the backwaters of a beaver dam only a couple of years old. Click the link to see it full screen.

SQUIRREL!

Born February 12th 1809, our slave-freeing 16th president Abraham Lincoln said: "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power."

Other favorite Lincoln quotes:

"Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."

"We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution."

"You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today."

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

"This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it."

"Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth."

I've been posting this on social media for years: "The rule of law is not dead; it is in a politically-induced coma."

The rule of law is starting to stir.

Senate confirms Jeff Sessions as new US attorney general

#MAGA

I have one political wish that could happen this year if the idea became popular:

I wish that the President and every Republican Senator and Congressman would separately and publicly state on camera the undeniable truth that the Democrat party is the party of the Ku Klux Klan.

If Nancy Pelosi thinks Bush is the current President and Maxine Walters thinks Putin has invaded Korea, then I can believe that Donald Trump is Superman and Mike Pence has invented a cure for kryptonite.

Rumor Has It: Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Walters are not the idiots they seem; Nancy and Maxine are doing publicity stunts for the all-female remake of Dumb and Dumber.

(There has been some internal bickering about who gets to play the role of Dumber.)

Ronald Reagan, born in 1911 on this day, was a factory of notable quotables. My favorite quote is:"Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"

More Favorite Reagan Quotes:
"Concentrated power has always been the enemy of liberty."
"Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them."
"Government's first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives.
"Of the four wars in my lifetime, none came about because the U.S. was too strong."
"The best minds are not in government. If any were, business would steal them away."
"The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help."
"They say the world has become too complex for simple answers. They are wrong."
"When you can't make them see the light, make them feel the heat."
