This kind of designerly repurposing is right on target for anyone with a 3D printer.
Though Muji served as a muse for this initial series, its ambition is much broader.

The second date you'll want to remember is Monday April 14th, when Mars and Earth will be at their closest. If you can dedicate one night to watching the sky this month, make it the night of April 14th. Not only will the Red Planet be at its biggest in more than six years, it will coincide with a total lunar eclipse. What's more, the Moon and Mars will actually appear beside each other, the two of them blazing red in the night sky. It'll be the first total lunar eclipse visible from North America since December 2011. That it happens to coincide with our close pass of Mars is just incredible. You owe it to yourself to get outside and watch it for yourself.
On April 8th, Earth will soar between the Sun and Mars. When it does, the Red Planet will reach what astronomers call "opposition" in the night sky. Just a few days later, Earth will be closer to Mars than it's been in more than six years. The resulting views should be extraordinary. Here's what you need to know to catch a glimpse yourself.

NASA Is Planting A Veggie Garden In Space

"The experimental garden will be grown in a sealed, expandable chamber which researchers are calling Veggie. Their first crop will be Outredgeous lettuce, a red romaine variety that we can confirm tastes pretty good within the confines of Earth's atmosphere. But researchers say they Veggie can support all kinds of "salad-type crops."
It's spring planting season and NASA is getting in on the action with a vegetable garden bound for the International Space Station.

One of my favorite sites has grown to be a behemoth of science and science fiction. It celebrates imaginative and inspirational stories that drive humanity into a brighter future.
io9 started out in 2007 as the germ of an idea for a site about futurism, with a name that was a joke about brain implants. Six and a half years later, we've grown in size -- but we've also grown up. Our 2008 manifesto still holds true, but in 2014 we've got some amendments. Here they are.
