The only problems I have with Four Star Fruit is the grapes' packaging and lack of an email contact for the company. Grapes come in the silly plastic bag with ventilation holes all over including the bottom so the stems fall out all over the floor and counters when you pick it up. I thought I'd send an email to the company, but their very fancy website has no email address posted.

I was there with a fairly large party on Mother's Day and ordered just a house salad to see what they offer for an inexpensive, vegetarian, and healthy light offering. The salad was certainly a disappointment with just mainly lettuce, onions, and a few croutons. Not hardly worth the wait or the money. One would think Pincher's could offer a more appealing house salad instead of 50 cents worth of lettuce and onions.

Attending a unique "24-hour" play writing contest this Saturday, Dec 7, 2013 we noted an exuberant group of theater fans nearly filling the small auditorium of the Kiwanis building near downtown Fort Myers. Arriving early we weren't allowed to be seated which we found a bit strange and walked around the quaint neighborhood just off Palm Beach Boulevard. Although there were five 10-minute plays presented during the evening, and six judges of some stature including a five-time Emmy winnter, we noted that there weren't any programs listing the playwrights and actors or the judges. That would have been something to promote the theater group and even enable some income from advertising. If you're a "small" theater fan, you'll probably like the Laboratory Theater.

Having attended this institution almost daily when it was a local parish church in the 1990s it's surprising now that the planned new church building was torn down after some apparently major construction errors were found in the nearly completed building. Now it's a Catholic School with neatly fenced off grounds across from a park. How things change! An interesting bit of local history is here.

I called the theater for information on an upcoming movie showing date, but the theater folks didn't know anything about it. I then called the Carmike headquarters office to inquire and left a message asking when the movie would be scheduled, but no one ever called back. Customers service leaves a bit to be desired as I would expect the main office to at least return calls.

A short visit in November 2013 when Barbara and I had a chat with the ranch owner who said the grounds have suffered from a very rainy summer season that left much of the property underwater as the creek overflowed and made the place not accessible for months. She was just now recovering from the flooding. We took a short canoe trip up the creek coming back just before the rains hit. Unfortunately there is an airboat concession a mile up the creek and the very noisy craft passed by us, ruining what is a very quiet location, although it did slow down to a safe speed when passing. There's plenty of horses available for riding and you may be able to see the various other animals there including a monkey, pet birds, and a donkey as well. The owner has rescued lots of animals over the years and depends on donations and rental income to help defray the huge costs in taking care of them. If you like saving animals, you might want to help her out with a donation.

Although the building was closed on the November afternoon we visited, it has a nice place with benches to sit along the small pond or sit under the gazebo in the shade. Nicely landscaped with a rose garden next to the building, it's a perfect out of the way place for peace and quiet contemplation.
