After the pain has stopped and after medical treatment has ended for a traumatic brain injury (TBI), some people find that they still cannot successfully return to the life they once had. One of the more lasting effects of a TBI is that a victim may not be able work at the same job or even work at all.

New York Post recently ran a feature story about 86-year-old Anna Pesce and her journey with the healing power of yoga. Anna suffered from debilitating scoliosis, a herniated disc, and osteoporosis, all of which led to immobility and daily pain.
The 86-year-old’s pain was so bad, and her spine curvature so extreme, that most of the time she couldn’t walk, much less complete every day activities on her own.

Car Accidents Related To Fatigue

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) conservatively estimates that at least 100,000 motor vehicle crashes are the direct result of driver fatigue each year in the US. This results in an estimated 1,550 deaths, 71,000 injuries, and $12.5 billion in monetary losses.

Even more, mind boggling is that according to a National Sleep Foundation poll, 60% of adult drivers (about 168 million people) say they have driven a vehicle while feeling drowsy in the past year. Additionally, more than one-third of Americans (about 103 million people), have actually fallen asleep at the wheel.

The brain is the body’s most complex organ, and when it is injured, the effects can be significant. No two brain injuries are alike, and the type of injury, the force associated with the injury, and the individual’s health history and resiliency can play a major role in the extent of injury and recovery. The following considers the primary types of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), and what you can do if you or a loved one has suffered a TBI as a result of the negligence of another.

During a sudden trauma like a car accident or slip-and-fall, the vertebra bone is susceptible to breakage just like any other bone in the body. Due to the shape of the vertebrae, they usually do not completely snap in half, but instead suffer major fracturing. When a vertebra fractures, a patient can experience severe side effects and pain. In order to repair this injury, surgeons have developed an innovated solution called vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty.

On March 6, 2016, Kristopher Boesen was driving down a California road when he lost control of his car. The vehicle swerved back and forth before ramping off the road, slamming into a tree, and crashing into a telephone pole. Kris, who was about to turn 21, suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury. When he woke up in the hospital, he was paralyzed from the neck down; his life was forever changed.

Doctors warned Kris’ parents, Rodney and Annette Boesen, that he may be permanently paralyzed. He would most likely never walk, feed, or bathe himself ever again. He would need around-the-clock care and constant assistance with most of life’s tasks.
