So I know it's been a while since I posted a general hiya post!

But I've been super super busy!

I've been studying my first year in Computer Systems at Heriot-Watt University. Life has been exceptionally busy balancing studies and family. (I passed first year with 5 A's and 3 B's! :D

Xander's doing amazing, he's learning so much every day... Can you believe he's 4 now!

I've had some fantastic opportunities at the university and I've been trying to take as many as I can balance out with my time. From working with kit that otherwise I would never get the chance to work with to helping make a difference in kids lives, bringing in children from deprived areas to help them code (and hopefully get them hooked on learning science, technology, engineering and maths!)

Along with working with a few different teams, I've been entering competitions and engaging with the public offering coding and tech/robotics demonstrations with our amazing robots and wonderful lecturers.

If you're going to be visiting the Car Fest North or South festival for Children in Need in England this month or next, I'll be in Heriot-Watt's tents showing off some of our amazing kit and letting people get hands on with incredible robots.. Feel free to pop by and say hello! (And see us while we print off a new robot for the new Robotic's Society!!)

Life is pretty good and even though it's the summer break, I've been working for the university as an intern (pretty much unheard of... a first year being an intern!)

I can't wait to see what comes from my second year. ^_^

Exceptionally chuffed to find out our Heriot Watt Year of Robotics team won the Principal's Public Engagement Prize Team Award for 2017.

We've been letting members of the public have taster sessions with robots, particularly working with children and bolstering their relationships with robotics, coding and some of the concepts of computation.

Well done team!! I can't wait to see our group photos!!

I did it!!

I abseiled 165ft off the Forth Rail Bridge for charity (The Scottish Cot Death Trust).

It was a lovely warm day for October and the event was really well organised. It's higher than I've abseiled before, so i was pretty nervous on my way up. Coming down was the easy part!!

There still time to donate since I've done the challenge now over at https://acefrb-oct2016.everydayhero.com/uk/abseil-off-the-forth-rail-bridge#/?_k=9ax4ih

OK guys, I really need your help!
I'm abseiling off the Forth Rail Bridge for charity in a few weeks time and I'm still short of my target.

If you've got a few pennies jingling in those pockets, please pop on and give me a hand to help the wonderful Scottish Cot Death Trust. They are the people that give comfort and support to grieving families after suffering the heartbreak of losing their wee angels.

I'm doing it on the 9th of October and should be on my way up and down between 3:18pm and 4:03pm. I'm most likely going to be very very scared when I get up there... But it's for charity right?

So please head over to https://acefrb-oct2016.everydayhero.com/uk/abseil-off-the-forth-rail-bridge and help me make a difference!!

So my first week of uni has been exhausting, exciting, scary and generally filled with opposite emotions. I'm sure I've picked a fantastic uni that has loads of support if you ask for it.

I can't wait to get stuck into the nitty gritty of my subject (BSc Computer Systems) and my elective Scot's Gaelic... So in the next few weeks, feel free to chat to me about either subject cos that's what my mind is pretty focussed on. I'll need to practice my Gaelic, so those I know that speak it will probably get picked on to chat to... #sorrynotsorry

I've been invited to join Heriot Watt's Chamber Choir... Flashbacks of fun I had in choirs at school come to mind and I'm really looking forward to it. Singing used to be a wonderful outlet for the stress of study.

I doubt I'll be able to do many more extra curricular activities. But we'll see what happens.

I've met some lovely people over the last couple weeks and I'm looking forward to studying with new people in the weeks ahead.
