Check out this small photographic exhibit featured by the Oregon Historical Society titled ~ Mirror On The Modern Woman: Selected Images From The Oregon Journal 1927 - 1933.
Each photograph includes a written narrative describing the person and scene. We found it very interesting to see what the Oregon Journal Newspaper considered newsworthy back in the day, and we also enjoyed seeing the period clothing, furnishings and architecture in the images.

We enjoyed viewing this slideshow of antique / vintage Fortuny textiles and clothing and thought perhaps some of our friends might, as well. The original exhibit was presented several years ago at The Queen Sofia Spanish Institute of New York. Sure wish we could have attended, but the slideshow is quite interesting.

Antique painting of 42 cats, c. 1891, titled My Wife's Lovers, recently sold for $826,000. Reportedly the world's largest cat painting it measures six feet by eight and a half feet. San Francisco millionairess Kate Birdsall Johnson commissioned Austrian artist Carl Kahler to paint some of her 300+ felines. Kahler sketched the cats for apx. three years before starting the painting.

"Never Forget".   To note the the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II the Oregon Historical Society is featuring a massive exhibit, World War II: A World at War, a State Transformed

As detailed in the Oregonian newspaper, the exhibit, spanning two floors and 6000 square feet, is the largest the society has ever done. It includes many historical manuscripts, letters and documents, as well as unusual artifacts like a Nazi coding device called the Enigma Machine, a log of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor and remnants of the balloon bomb that caused casualties in Oregon, the only WWII injuries occurring in the Continental United States, and much more.

The following link will take you to the Oregon Historical Society web site for additional information:
