Well Done Chase for finishing off your Open Water course with us earlier this week. You were like a fish in water, no challenge to our instructor Stephen. We hope to see you again in the future!

Watch where you put your hands...
There are a lot of fragile marine life in Komodo National Park, but also some that will get you back! The tasseled scorpion Fish is venomous and if touched it will hurt like a hot day in hell.

Can beginners dive in Komodo National Park?
Komodo is famous for its currents which provides high biodiversity and offers exciting diving for experienced divers. There are many types of dive sites here; some are more protected and others can have a lot of water movement. The strength of currents also depend on the moon phase and we advice novices to avoid diving 3 days before and after full/new moon as there will be a wider range of dive sites available for them around the half moon stage.
Our experienced dive staff will always assess dive conditions and guests’ capabilities to ensure a safe yet great day of diving. We also operate two dive boats which gives us the flexibility to offer different programs for our guests.
Moon phase calendar can be found here: https://www.timeanddate.com/moon/phases/@1638868

The Green Turtle can be recognized by the plate patterns. It can grow to 1,5m in length during 50 years but will not start to reproduce until it is 13 years old. It especially likes to chill out in Siaba Besar, Komodo National Park. (Photo Claudia Greiner)

In late November a volcano in northeast Bali erupted, 600 km from Komodo. The Denpasar Airport (DPS) is within a safe distance, however it may experience short notice closure over the coming months if ash blows in the direction of the airport. We therefore advice visitors to book a direct flight from Jakarta (CGK) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ). These flights will be unaffected.
The great news is Batik Airlines has a new route from the 15th of December with very competitive prices. Garuda also has direct flights as well as indirect flights via the El Tari airport in Kupang (KOE).
The weather and diving this time of the year is great! We are in the middle of manta season and we have spotted large marine life such as Whalesharks and Blue whales. Low tourist numbers is another bonus. This is on top of the usual reef sharks, abundance of turtles, healthy corals, unusual macro and much more which would make this list very long indeed.

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING...Is the only way to describe diving down onto the pinnacle at Crystal Bommie yesterday. Once we had drifted down through the fish soup of fusiliers, giant trevalli and surgeons, we had scores of other fish, white tips and a grey reef shark patrolling the pinnacle. The eagle ray that hovered within arms reach , was totally undisturbed by our bubbly presence. #divekomodo Dive Komodo #divinginkomodo #labuanbajodivecentre #komododreamdiving
