Karpathos is a Greek Island that is rich in culture and traditions. It is part of a cluster of islands called the Dodecanese in the Southeast Aegean Sea. Located halfway between its more famous neighbours, the islands of Rhodes and Crete, Karpathos has beauty and hospitality that is unmatched anywhere else in Greece. With 330 square kilometres, Karpathos is the second largest island of the Dodecanese and has around 5,400 inhabitants.
The southern side of the island has partly developed in tourism, while the central and the northern side has remained unspoiled and authentic, with picturesque villages away from mass tourism.
Located on the northern side, Olympos is the most impressive village on the island. Due to its secluded location, this village keeps intact its daily life and traditions. Karpathian women at the north side of the island still wear traditional garments, especially in the time-forgotten village of Olympos, perched atop a perilous mountain ridge.
