Freetype2-Infinality

Antergos comes with Freetype2 font rendering engine.  In reading about font tweaks, I came across a patched version, Freetype2-Infinality.

I have since installed it and it replaces Freetype2 during installation.

I will tell you that setting aliasing to 'Rgba' and hinting to  'Slight' makes for the clearest font thus far.  I have switched to Google-Droid font in Antergos and have an ~/.Xresources file containing the following directive:

Xft.lcdfilter: lcddefault
Infinality's settings are all configurable at runtime via environment variables in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/infinality-settings , and include the following: Emboldening Enhancement: Disables Y emboldening, producing a much nicer result on fonts without bold versions. Works on native TT hinter ...

Gnome-Boxes¹ State of the Art Virtualization

I've taken a strong liking to Gnome-Boxes.  This is Gnome's answer to competing virtualization vendor software such as VMware and VirtualBox.

Be assured, Boxes is no slouch and will use VT-x, AMD-V bios extensions if enabled in your PC's ROM-BIOS settings.

Boxes uses on x86_64 pcs the Linux kernel virtual manager or kvm for short and is called by an emulation layer, Qemu.

Creating a virtual machine is easy with Boxes.  It's easier in fact than any other VM manager I have tried.  This is a pervading theme throughout Gnome Shell.  Ease of use and simplicity are its forte.

My recommendation is if you have a Linux Distro running Gnome-Shell, to run Boxes.

I especially like that the default virtual machine file format is qcow2.
Qcow2 has the added ability to store snapshots internally.

Snapshots allow the user of a VM to roll-back to a snapshot instance if/when needed such as when testing software or experiencing unrecoverable errors.  It takes a minute to do and is the added insurance you need when the situation warrants.

Snapshots in Boxes are not the same as what, say, Btrfs offers which are 'external' to the Virtual Machine.  Nor are they the same as restore points in Windows.  Windows restore points do not snapshot the entire operating system.

So, keep Boxes in mind the next time you need a virtual machine.
And if you'd rather not dual-boot your system to switch between Windows and Linux, it's easy to create a Windows virtual machine as any other (see screenshot below of Windows 7 installation).

Have Fun!

+Bill Lanoue I'd say the story has no substance.  I believe that Bitcoin will grow exponentially as the Dollar falls.

Wall Street is most interested (Koch Brothers are waiting for clearance from SEC for their ETF 'COIN' and one other ETF 'BIT' is on-line.

Gold, Silver, and Bitcoin have largely moved sideways.  Bitcoin differs in that it can't be manipulated like Gold, Silver 'naked short' selling done by the Fed on COMEX.

COMEX as a result is highly-leveraged (100/1, 100 paper contracts for every physical ounce of physical gold in inventory).  It's pure paper manipulation designed to suppress the gold and silver price.

I'm expecting China to reprice gold (at least double its current value) and that will, timing-wise, probably come when the petro dollar is officially devalued by 40% or more.  If China did it sooner, it might play havoc with their burgeoning export trade surplus (America is their largest trade balance).
