Both animal and human studies suggest a role of #EDCs in altering female reproductive development. Data from animal experiments show that EDC exposure during critical periods of development, both prenatal and neonatal, can induces functional changes that appear later in life. There are data gaps in understanding the mechanisms by which EDCs carry out their action, but it is clear that to reduce the risk of reproductive disorders we must take action to reduce exposure to these chemicals.

The process of cervical screening is to be changed to allow women to benefit from more accurate tests. After a successful pilot programme and a recommendation by the UK National Screening Committee, screening samples will be tested for human papilloma virus (HPV) first. This will be rolled out across England as the primary screening test for cervical disease.

New findings suggest that prenatal alcohol exposure is associated with distinct DNA methylation patterns in children and adolescents, raising the possibility of an epigenetic biomarker of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (#FASD).

Almost a fifth of women aged 35 to 44 have struggled to conceive, with those settling down later in life more likely to report infertility, a large study suggests.

Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP), a chemical commonly used in the food manufacturing process, can increase fat stores in the body even before we’re born. #EDCs #phthalates
Phthalates may cause fat accumulation and program the stem cell to become obese via an epigenetic balance

To protect human health, Endocrine Society members called on the European Commission to adopt science-based policies for regulating endocrine-disrupting chemicals in an opinion piece published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology.

1989: what surfaces is a disturbing array of health hazards ranging from depression, nausea, and weight gain, to burst ovaries, adhesions, and the promotion of cancer leading to death in some women, worrying rates of birth anomalies in the children and severe chromosomal aberrations in egg cell development. Of great concern is the evidence that the drug may stay in a woman’s body for at least six weeks. Since clomiphene citrate has a chemical structure similar to DES there may be as yet unknown long-term adverse effects similar to those from DES.

Project TENDR: a unique coalition of top doctors, scientists and health advocates is calling for more aggressive regulation on chemicals found in common household items. The goal is to protect expectant mothers, infants and children from neurotoxic chemicals by stepping up efforts to curb air pollution, remediate old lead pipes, phase out certain pesticides, ban endocrine-disrupting chemicals used in food packaging and plastics and come up with a plan for getting rid of furniture laden with fire retardants. #EDCs #phthalates #pesticides #cosmetics

2016: "Dose-response curves of EDCs are also unpredictable. Hence mode of action of #EDCs are more complex than previously thought. In the light of these controversies lower doses of EDCs in long term exposure is not harmless."

DES awareness: news, updates about Diethylstilbestrol exposure, side effects, studies.
Introduction

Around the world, millions of men and women are totally unaware that they were exposed to Diethylstilbestrol DES, a toxic and carcinogenic drug prescribed to pregnant women decades ago to prevent miscarriage which has adverse health side effects on 3 generations. All of these people are not receiving proper medical treatment, or making truly informed decisions about their healthcare, as a result.

How to reach out to DES exposed individuals?
One opportunity I considered when I started writing my DES Blogs "Journal of a DES Daughter" and "DES Daughter Network" was the use of social media networks.

This Google+ page aims to break the wall of silence around the DES drug issues and further raise awareness about the health concerns including cancer and infertility associated with prenatal DES exposure.
