Phew! After long discussions between design, release team, translators and the documentation team, we finally got the Feature and UI Freeze Exception for getting the additional option to disable ubuntu partner search results on the dash. It's now implemented and merged in the various trunks: libunity, unity-lens-shopping, unity-lens-music and unity-lens-video. The ui part is in activity-log-manager (the privacy panel in Gnome Control Center), which only appears if unity is installed. All of this will hit Quantal shortly after beta2!

+Georgi Karavasilev Yeah, it's been discussed. It will need more design thinking, but it's definitively something we will consider for 13.04.

+Didier Roche is it possible to get an option into the installer to disable the internet based results for the sake of the tinfoil-hatters :)?

(I'm not one of them, but their whining is annoying).

As per that mockup, in the mean time, it would be nice to include +Andrew King's Lens Toggler as a hidden pro-tool :)

+Roland Taylor It's not what was decided on it (and we still try to keep as few steps on the installer as possible). There is an option for doing it per user now, which is already a nice steps forward and less complicated than removing the package. :)

Didier, this looks like just another part of your & +Sebastien Bacher's plan to get French as Ubuntu's default language.

Don't want your private searches sent to Canonical? Just change your language to French and flip this one switch...

But it is opt-out, or am I wrong?

+Jeremy Bicha shhhh, this is the secret plan (people didn't notice the reste of the ui is in French) where this feature only shows up if you select French as your default language. ;)

+Didier Roche this is why I mentioned the installer option. Without it, you're going to have this question asked over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over

(this is getting annoying isn't it? I typed every single "and over" by hand)

and over, and over, and over (o_o), and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and...

OMIGOSH MAKE IT STOP!!!! :'(

But Hey, don't forget maybe to ask to activate it in opt-in during the installation. In some countries, theses kind of things have to be in opt-in and to be clearly noticed to the user.

Also, just to say, i am not against it but what i would have liked is a way to de-activate it according the acoounts. Maybe an account for my child should have it OFF, but mine On... For this reasons : http://neosting.net/actualite/canonical-se-mord-la-queue-avec-son-systeme-daffiliation.html (french blog)

Cyrille, that screenshot shows that the feature can now be enabled or disabled per account.

Ok, i edit my last blogpost. I wasn't really sure (the sudo needed to delete the lense), but that makes sense as it is in the settings, and now  a function per user integrated in the lense. Thank you :)
