The Wall Street Journal published a detailed article about altitude sickness but failed to mention the only FDA approved treatment for this oxygen deprivation syndrome, mild HBOT in a portable hyperbaric chamber!

This crossover clinical trial of hyperbaric oxygen therapy for Fibromyalgia provides evidence that HBOT can improve the symptoms and life quality of FMS patients. Moreover, it shows that HBOT can induce neuroplasticity and significantly rectify abnormal brain activity in pain related areas of FMS patients.

According to Dr. Efrati, “The results are of significant importance since, unlike the current treatments offered for fibromyalgia patients, HBOT is not aiming for just symptomatic improvement.  HBOT is aiming for the actual cause - the brain pathology responsible for the syndrome. It means that brain repair, including even neuronal regeneration, is possible even for chronic, long-lasting pain syndromes, and we can and should aim for that in any future treatment development.”

This is one man’s story of his TBI recovery, thanks to HBOT.  According to Dr. Matt Holden, the doctor who treated him, “With hyperbaric oxygen, you help the brain grow new blood vessels, and it improves circulation to the part of the brain that is damaged and it helps the brain grow new stem cells that can become new neurons and regenerate lost networks in the brain.”
There is new hope for traumatic brain injury sufferers, thanks in part to a local man who refused to give up.

After Joe Namath underwent HBOT, his physician said that "brain scans started to show new activity. The whole area of the brain just came back to life,” Dr. Fox said in an interview. “He was feeling better. He was finding the right words.” In addition, Namath’s sleeping improved."

This man has made a remarkable recovery from a severe TBI, thanks to hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

"When I first started, I would come here in a wheelchair and have to be wheeled in and get out to use the chamber," he said. "Then I moved to a walker; then I moved to a cane. It helped my muscles because my muscles are really tense, and it relaxed them.

"When I first started, I had a bad case of insomnia and couldn't sleep," he recalled. "And every time I came here and got done with the chamber I'd go home and fall asleep."  "My memory has gotten a lot better," he added. "Like, I would do something in the morning, by afternoon I'd forget what I'd done. Now I have a pretty good memory."

According to a woman who did HBOT for RSD, a chronic pain syndrome, ‘Within a month the pain started to subside. I felt well enough to exercise, which helped manage the pain and enabled me to think positively.  It was as effective as any painkiller I had been given up to that point."
For Jae De Wylde, unrelenting pain was an unwelcome part of life. It began in 2004 after a simple operation to fix a knee-tendon injury triggered the nerve condition reflex sympathetic dystrophy.
