How to Tell if There are Rare Coins in your Everyday Pocket Change:

When most people get change back after a purchase, they shove it into their pockets, only to have it forgotten about until it comes time to drop it into the change jar at home. What you might not realize, however, is that you could be overlooking some interesting artifacts that are potentially valuable!

A small disclaimer for the information you’re about to read: it’s highly unlikely that you’ll ever find rare coins in Indianapolis, IN by searching through your pocket change—what you will find, however, are some interesting coins that would be worth more than their face value. If you’re going to sift through your pocket change, do so with a mind for excitement and interest, instead of an eye for striking gold.

The appearance and history of the Morgan Silver Dollar

The Morgan Silver Dollar prominently features the profile of Lady Liberty on its face while the reverse side shows an eagle with outstretched wings. The coin was designed by George Morgan, who at the time was an Assistant Engraver at the United States Mint.

The profile of Lady Liberty as seen on this version of the coin was inspired by the actual profile of Anne Willis Williams who modeled for Morgan five different times so that he could capture her image. The coin was first minted from 1878-1908 and again for a short amount of time in 1921. The Morgan Silver Dollar was created as an effort to redesign the look and feel of the original silver dollar design.

Why the Morgan Silver Dollar is rare and valuable

The silver content of the coin will impact the value of the coin. Likewise, the current demand and price for silver will also ...Read More... http://diamondstampandcoin.com/2014/09/rare-coins-in-indianapolis-in-the-morgan-silver-dollar/
