So, as an unbiased boxing fan, I would like to weight in on Mayweather vs Pacquiao. Before I do, let me give you my stance on the result I want. I want Pacman to win, but at the same time, I'm a realist.
Let's talk about what needs to happen for either one to take this fight.
This fight won't be based on brute strength, its going to be based on who can pull the other fighter into their fight. These two fighter have very intrinsic styles. Yes they adjust their style to counter their opponents style, but its not too far from their intrinsic styles.
Example: Pacquiao is going to come forward....period...point blank. Mayweather is going to counter....period ..point blank. The question becomes, at what point will these styles make an impact. Will will Mayweather NOT counter, and when will Pac NOT move forward?
Mayweather likes to counter single punches, and absorb flurries with his Philly shell defense. But how does he handle a fighter who's natural style is to ALWAYS throw combinations? Its not a choice for Pacquiao, it IS Pacquiao. At one point does Mayweather realize, "this is overwhelming?"
Pacquiao cannot bet on his right jab, straight left 1-2 in this fight. Its TOO easy to read, yet, it is difficult to avoid. It comes at different speeds and different angles, BUT most fighters will eventually get used to that repetitive combo. Then what? Straight right and lights out.
So, again, who adjusts? Who reaches outside their intrinsic style and makes the adjustment? Its hard to teach an old dog new tricks, and it will be interesting to see who tries to be the puppy again.
