The last time TPG raised a leveraged-buyout fund, in 2008, financial markets were just beginning to unravel.

Here's a global deals and investing trend I spent a few weeks exploring with my colleague Peggy Collins. Among the most-read on Bloomberg this month.
In December, a half-dozen of some of the richest families in the U.S., from agriculture to beverages, gathered in a conference room on the 10th floor of an office building in Miami.

We broke probably the week's biggest people-mover in finance, the departure of Olivier Sarkozy from Carlyle. I hit +Bloomberg TV afterward to discuss.
Carlyle Group LP’s Olivier Sarkozy, the head of the private equity firm’s financial services group, has resigned, people with knowledge of the move said.

From last month: Amid renewed calls for gun-control reforms, why one private equity firm is sticking with its gunmaker.
Way up in a New York high-rise, inside the headquarters of Cerberus Capital Management, Stephen A. Feinberg had reached a sobering conclusion: The guns had to go.

In his 15 years at the helm of Stanford , President John L. Hennessy has more than doubled the university's endowment, seen its undergraduate program displace Harvard as the most selective school in the nation and fostered a symbiotic relationship between campus brains and Silicon Valley money that created tech darlings such as Snapchat and Instagram.
