From as far back as December 2011, Google have been clear in their message, 'we like responsive design'. Since launching a Webmaster Mobile Guide site to help developers in making their site responsive, they have also introduced mobile-friendly labels in mobile search results and more recently sent warnings to website owners about the need for a responsive site through Google Webmaster Tools.

On April 21st, Google intends to push this one step further. Any site that is not mobile friendly could see a dramatic decline in their search rankings for mobile search results.
