Honda Earns Industry Leading Top Safety Pick+ Ratings

The #Honda brand is one that #Detroit drivers know they can trust when it comes to safety, but it's always nice to have that safety reaffirmed with awards from the leaders in the auto safety world. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety have awarded eight different American Honda Motor Company vehicles their Top Safety Pick+ award.

The Honda lineup took home four Top Safety Pick+ awards while the Acura lineup also earned four of the awards.

John Mendel, the Executive VP for American Honda responded to the awards, saying "The fundamental notion of vehicle safety is evolving and with technologies like some of those in Honda Sensing and AcuraWatch, we are pursuing our vision to reduce and, ultimately, to eliminate vehicle collisions. This is one of our biggest challenges and an essential element of our commitment to making products that improve the lives of people."

The vehicles in the Honda lineup included the #2016HondaAccord in sedan and coupe body styles, the #2016HondaCRV, and the #2016HondaPilot. In addition to the Top Safety Pick+ awards, the 2016 Honda Odyssey earned a Top Safety Pick. The key difference between the two awards is the available frontal crash prevention.

The CR-V, Accord, and Pilot all earn that “+” by having the Honda Sensing suite of safety features that include forward collision warning, collision mitigation braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane keeping assist. If you opt for any of the Top Safety Pick+ models without the Honda Sensing suite, don't worry; they still have the crash test integrity that earns the Top Safety Pick award.

Underlying each Honda model is an Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure designed to crumple in just the right places in an accident, and each new Honda vehicle comes standard with a rearview camera for added peace of mind when backing up and parking.

Accident prevention and mitigation are top priorities when designing a new Honda, and IIHS approval makes it pretty clear to us that they are doing a good job. Let us show you everything these Honda models have to offer; visit a Detroit Area Honda Dealer near you for a test drive.

The 2016 Honda Civic Changes Make Waves

The #2016HondaCivic has arrived in #Detroit, and we love seeing every driver's smiling face as they head home behind the wheel. But if you haven't had the chance to get in the driver's seat of the #2016Civic, you might be wondering what's changed. Your Detroit Area #Honda Dealers are here with the highlights.

Honda went all out for the 10th generation of the Civic, starting with two brand-new engines.

–The standard Civic comes with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with 158 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque.
–For the first time ever, Honda has brought a turbocharged engine over to the United States. The Civic can be had with a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque.

This is also the most efficient Honda's non-hybrid Civic has been, with the Civic EX-T models earning an EPA-estimated 42 highway and 31 city mpg.* Non-turbocharged versions earn up to 41 highway and 31 city mpg* with the available CVT.

After the engine, it's time to take a look at the interior. Basic Civic models come with a multi-angle rearview camera, Bluetooth for phone and audio, and a 5-inch color LCD screen, and can be equipped with the new #HondaSensing safety features. Drivers looking for a bit more have four additional trim levels to choose from: EX, EX-T, EX-L, and Touring. The new turbocharged engine starts becoming standard on the aptly named EX-T trim level, which includes the amenities of the LX trim as well as EX amenities like:

–Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
–7-inch Display Audio touchscreen
–Remote engine start and push-button ignition
–HondaLink telematics

EX-L and Touring trim levels add on luxuries like leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seating, heated rear seating (Touring), a 450-watt stereo system (Touring), and more.

We only have so much space to talk about the 2016 Honda Civic, and we want you to know that this is just a passing glance at what's available on the new model. Suffice it to say that as far as changes are concerned, it's become more stylish, more fuel-efficient, more powerful, and better equipped than the outgoing model. Let us help you find yours today at a Detroit Area Honda Dealer.

The 2016 Honda HR-V Earns Top Safety Scores from the NHTSA

Since its debut on the #Detroit streets six months ago, the #2016HondaHRV has been making quite a few fans.

We know that many drivers have chosen this #Honda as their fuel-efficient vehicle for a family on the go, and we are excited to announce that the #NHTSA has just awarded the #2016HRV their highest safety score, making it an even better choice for a family crossover.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ranks vehicles on a five-star system in their New Car Assessment Program, and the 2016 HR-V received a Five-Star Overall Vehicle Score after its recent evaluation.

Jeff Conrad, Honda's Senior Vice President and General Manager, described how the HR-V earned top marks: "Using Honda's packaging magic, powertrain innovation and safety engineering expertise, the HR-V delivers a high level of occupant safety protection along with class-leading fuel economy and interior space."

"True to Honda's commitment to the safety of all road users, the HR-V is designed to make the vehicle more compatible with other vehicles and to help to mitigate injuries to pedestrians in the event of a collision," Conrad added.

Safety starts with the frame, specifically with Honda's Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure. Designed to improve front crash performance, the ACE design redistributes energy during an accident to help keep it away from the passenger compartment. The HR-V also features a variety of passive and active safety features, including a standard multi-angle rearview camera, LATCH-compliant child safety seat anchors, and a suite of airbags.

Honda has been an industry leader in safety for decades thanks to the application of advanced technology features, and in recent years, their advanced standard features have helped push other automakers to incorporate rearview cameras in their cars. They have even developed a package of advanced accident prevention features—called Honda Sensing—that can help stop a collision before it happens.

There is so much more to the HR-V than its safety ratings, though. Visit a Detroit Area Honda Dealer near you today and take one for a test drive to see this sleek new compact crossover in action.

We Have News on the 2016 Honda Civic

After making a stunning debut on YouTube last month, the #2016HondaCivic is on the minds of even more #Detroit area drivers than it was before. #Honda hasn't released the full details on the #2016Civic yet, but we do have some news on what you can expect when it arrives at a Detroit Area Honda Dealer.

The biggest news on the new Civic is in its engines. The standard 2.0L 4-cylinder engine is poised to be the most powerful base engine on a non-Si Civic, which is exciting in its own right. But we know that many of our readers can't wait to test out the first turbocharged engine on an American Honda model, particularly when the Type-R arrives.

Honda's new advanced safety features package, the Honda Sensing system, will be available on the Civic as well, adding on amenities like Collision Mitigation Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Keeping Assist. And Honda's technology features do more than upgrade the Civic's safety: New Honda Civic models will be compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to offer seamless connectivity behind the wheel. The Civic's LED lighting also gives it a more advanced and futuristic look to complement the new streamlined design.

When he introduced the new Civic to the world, Honda's Executive Vice President John Mendel declared it “quite simply the most ambitious remake of Civic we've ever done."

And just from what we've seen so far, we have to agree with him. The new connectivity features, the upgraded engine options, and the mere existence of the Civic Type-R in the U.S. auto market predict exciting new things for the Civic.

The specs on the engines and interior are still under wraps, but Honda has said that they expect this to be a class-leader in both interior space and fuel efficiency. And based on how spacious and efficient the Civic already is, we expect them to deliver on that promise.

Be sure to add us to your circles here on Google+ to keep in the know on all things Honda, including the new Civic, and check with your local Detroit Area Honda Dealer to find out more about the 2016 Honda Civic.

IIHS Awards 2016 Honda Pilot Top Safety Award

The #2016HondaPilot has just earned the top #safety award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Top Safety Pick+ award.

If you've followed the #Pilot's history, though, you might recall that it didn't even earn the Top Safety Pick award for the 2015 model; so what did #Honda change? One of the key updates to the new model is a new body structure that helped it pass the small overlap front crash test with flying colors, earning the highest score (“good”) when before it received a “poor.”

In fact, the new Pilot took home top marks in every IIHS test:

-Moderate Overlap Front Crash Test: “Good”
-Small Overlap Front Crash Test: “Good”
-Roof Strength Test: “Good”
-Side Impact Test: “Good”
-Head Restraints and Seats Evaluation: “Good”
-Front Crash Prevention Rating: “Superior”

It didn't even need to score perfectly on the Small Overlap Front Crash Test to earn such a high-level award. It did have to receive the upgrades of the Honda Sensing safety package in order to score high enough in Front Crash Prevention to earn that “+” in “Top Safety Pick+.”

#MetroDetroit drivers looking to get behind the wheel of the safest family vehicle certainly have a good choice in the new Pilot, though we should be clear that the “+” technically is only earned by EX and higher trim levels. The standard 2016 Honda Pilot LX still earns a Top Safety Pick, but it doesn't have the same accident prevention features (like forward collision warning, collision mitigation braking, and adaptive cruise control).

State-of-the-art safety is just one of the many benefits of the new Pilot that make it one of the best options for area families. With seating for up to eight and standard features like #Bluetooth #HandsFreeLink for phone and audio and a multi-angle rearview camera, Honda's SUV is one of the most advanced entry-level models available.

To learn more about the safety features and available upgrades to the 2016 Honda Pilot, visit a Detroit Area Honda Dealer near you and let us show you around the new SUV. We can help you find out which of its five trim levels is right for you.

What to Expect on the 2016 Honda Accord

It was just about a year ago when we released the details on the wildly popular #2015HondaAccord, and that means it's time for us to make room for the #2016HondaAccord here at #Detroit Area #Honda Dealers. While we are still waiting on a release date and pricing, we do know quite a bit about the new #Accord that we can share with you.

One of the most exciting announcements regards the top-of-the-line Touring trim. Once only available on the Accord Sedan, drivers will be able to choose this high-end model on the new 2016 Accord Coupe as well.

On the chassis and body, both the Accord Coupe and Sedan were upgraded with a more rigid body and retuned electric power steering. Sport and Touring trim levels receive new 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels in the largest size ever had on a factory Accord model. All of the Accord's wheel designs will be updated for 2016 as well.

Exterior design updates include restyled fasciae for the front and rear, a new aluminum hood on Accord Sedan models, new exterior color choices, and upgraded exterior accents like side sill garnish and a rear deck spoiler on the Sport and Touring trim levels.

Honda brings back many of the features drivers have come to love for the interior, adding on a 7-inch Display Audio system on EX and above trim levels (complete with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to sync with your smartphone). The Accord Touring Sedan inches even closer to the luxury car market with the addition of heated rear seats to all of its modern comfort amenities.

Perhaps the greatest news of all comes in the form of safety. Honda Sensing safety features are still standard on the Touring trim level, but they can now be added onto any trim of the 2016 Accord, including road departure mitigation, collision mitigation braking, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and more.

Honda Releases 2016 Odyssey Specs

One of the most exciting bits of news about the #2016HondaOdyssey is the new #SpecialEdition trim level that will arrive in the #MetroDetroit area. With six trim levels to choose from, we're confident that drivers will have no trouble finding a minivan that fits their needs at a Detroit Area #Honda Dealer.

We're still waiting on pricing and an official announcement of the release date, but we'll share what we can with you, starting with one of the most important features of a minivan: the fuel economy. 2016 Honda Odyssey models are rated at an EPA-estimated 28 highway mpg, holding tight onto that title of the most efficient minivan on the market.

The entry-level LX trim also remains one of the best-equipped minivans on the market with a standard 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bluetooth for phone and audio, Pandora internet radio, SMS texting capabilities, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and much more.

The new SE trim level splits the difference between the EX (a step up from the entry-level LX trim) and the EX-L trim, giving drivers an option with high-tech features without the luxurious heated front seating and leather trim of the EX-L. Highlights of the Odyssey SE include a rear DVD entertainment system, SiriusXM satellite radio, an extra third-row power outlet, and the HondaVac vacuum cleaner.

This is the first time the HondaVac vacuum cleaner has been found on anything but the Touring Elite trim level of the Odyssey, and it's an excellent way to make sure that your minivan stays spick and span. By coordinating with ShopVac, Honda designed the vacuum to reach every inch of the Odyssey, and it can run for up to eight minutes after shutting off the engine.

Above the SE trim level are the EX-L, Touring, and Touring Elite trims, and they add even greater luxury and even more high-tech amenities onto the Odyssey. For more information on the 2016 Honda Odyssey, visit a Detroit Area Honda Dealer near you.
