The Leadenhall building (The Cheesegrater) and St. Helen's (previously known as the Aviva Tower or the Commercial Union building) stand in the City of London. This was taken on the recent London Photo-walk, organised by +Julia Anna Gospodarou
and +Ian Good
, and this was my first day shooting long exposures in a long time. I'm quite happy with the results of this one and I really want to do more soon, I have really missed this style of photography.
I have learned a lot from +Julia Anna Gospodarou
and +Joel Tjintjelaar
's book "From Basics to Fine Art - Black and White Photography - Architecture and Beyond", a book I highly recommend, and I have consciously went for a minimal composition in this image. I experimented with a variety of ways to present the sky here, from dark to bright and settled on this one, somewhat bright, which I think frames the buildings well.
These towers are captivating, especially in the way they are positioned, close to each other, as if they really are companions on a journey of some kind. It's this sense of companionship that I have tried to express.
I'd like to send a big thanks to +Julia Anna Gospodarou
and +Ian Good
for organising this photo-walk, and I'm looking forward to the next one :) #london #blackandwhitephotography #blackandwhite #envisionography #architecture #architecturephotography #cityoflondon
