Really great talk about why CAP matters as long as keeping data is important to you.  And why that really fast simple system may not be as simple as you think when you need to handle a systems error.

I don't know what to make of this.  All I can guess is that Amazon shipping is now so fast that April Fool's jokes arrive in the beginning of December

I've said it before and I will say it again, is there anything amazon can't do?

I'm not sure what is going on with Russia, or what this hovercraft is for, but that is amazing.  And apparently they do local delivery

Not sure why I'm sharing this -- Ze Frank just seems to phrase everything in a magical way that makes it seem more real, I suppose.

This seems like it might be the next hypnotic-visual puzzle game for me.
The game has crazy music, a very arty style, and the gameplay is a classic doctor-mario style matching game.
Really big bonus points for having a fully customizable color blind mode
Minus points for a somewhat finnicky control scheme (blocks fall "down", but you slide up/down to rotate the surface the blocks are landing on.)

Still, all-in all it's a super fun game.

Hi there - my game has been recently released on Android. It is a musical match-three falling-blocks game. If you like chiptunes, Rymdkapsel aesthetics and Gyro gameplay you should  give it a try.

Also, FWIW, Jepsen seems like a really cool open-source tool for trying to figure out if your distributed system actually works.

This is pretty exciting, and is about time. My hope is that driverless cars never become personally owned--it's a waste. I also hope an Uber competitor comes along so we don't have a monopoly

Nice -- Dr. Tsay has made it to the economist, in the print edition no less.
+Chia-Jung Tsay , nice job!
"Even more intriguingly the experts, who one might think would be trained to screen out histrionic flummery on the part of performers and concentrate entirely on the sound of the music itself, did worse than the novices when they could hear the performance, whether or not they could see it as well"
SOME music has always been about the performance. Watching a rock band live, for example, is not just a matter of appreciating the quality of the sound. What the...

Nature is now featuring information about how visual impressions dominate other senses, even in music.  Also, good advice for #hackbright  presenters.

The Aparthotel Adagio in Köln(Cologne) has been a wonderful place to stay, that lets you feel more like you have a home rather than a hotel. The staff speaks perfect English, and the ability to self-cater your own meals Is wonderful. The location was extremely convenientto lots of the cathedral, as well as the night life. I would definitely stay here again.

I stayed in the ninth floor of the Hyatt Regency, and found it to be a nice hotel with one small flaw. I liked the fitness center, which was much better equipped than most hotel gyms, and the fact that there was a free Wi-Fi tier included. I did not like the fact that there were two elevator rides to get to the room: one to the lobby and another to the room itself. I ended up risking being in rain without a jacket rather than dealing with the hassle the two trips needed to fix it. Overall, a pretty nice downtown hotel.
