Hi Christine... I am not sure about how well your trees will respond to being trimmed back right now. I was told that the best time to cut the hedge was from August onwards, but that was because we had blackbirds nesting in the hedge and didn't want to disturb them.   My neighbour cut his in October on a bad winter two years ago. There was some frosts hit the hedge not long afterwards and a small part of his hedge lost its greenery about half way up, but it did recover in the following growing season.  This year about a week ago another neighbour has had his single Leylandii trees trimmed back. I believe it is heavy frosts that can do damage to the cut foliage but they seem to be OK with lighter frosts. My trees have had a trim each September since I put up this video in 2009.  There are more FAQS on Leylandii care here - http://www.leylandii.com/faq.html

Moving (back) to total zero.. No-mind, no-thingness. Everything dropped for a moment, including identity, including lessons from all the great masters..  Can we have such total trust?  This is zazen's aim. But do not aim for aiming is trying to become what we already are.

Then what? There is so much to be gained from this. The present moment. Being reborn over and over from moment to moment, and that doesn't really exist either if we truly drop all.   And trust the moment again and again and again, for the moment has never existed before and can never be certain, because it does and then does not exist, instantly.

Since the original cut, I purchased and  had the same problem with the long-reach petrol trimmer. It was heavy and do-able from ground level for the sides, but on top of the ladder, it was far too heavy to get a clean trim.  I am now using a Bosch 7000 Pro-T. It weighs in at 7kg, a bit heavier than my old one, but easily managable with a good reach blade at 70cms and 35mm  spacing between the teeth., It cuts through practically everything I can throw at it and has never jammed, where my older 'domestic' trimmers, would jam up far too often.

A Master
A Master... And this is it. Trust. Total trust.  And you can choose! Life can be a master;  a stone on the ground can be a master - a butterfly... Trust that there is something to learn. Sorrow of some loss, can be a master. Fear of that sorrow, even though...

Introduction

If I was to make a statement about my life, it would be....  My life is about Zen or even more specific, life IS Zen.

When people hear that statement they tend to think of me as a person who constantly meditates, day after day in pursuit of spiritual perfection, or spiritual realization. But nothing could be further from the truth.

Whilst it is true that Zen can be the Way of religion, for instance Zen Buddhism, Zen can be applied to anything in life, and I have a quite a few strong interests in life. I have been a therapist for the past 30 years. Around 25 years ago, I got interested in Zen and it transformed the way I worked. It is a matter of focus. Through meditation, I developed a mindfulness, and through this mindfulness, I recognized that there is only now, and if I took care of the "now" by focusing 100% on each experience and task I worked on, the future worked out the way it was meant to work out.

I am semi-retired from my therapy work now and have found a love of writing. My latest writing venture is about Wales, my homeland.
