Officials at the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge are having to periodically close the Three Sisters Springs to human visitors due to the sheer number of manatees crowding into the protected area.

My profile on a small-town mayor selected to be on Obama's climate change preparedness task force.
The presidential task force includes the governors of seven states, a former NBA All-Star and the mayor of one small town on the Alabama coast.

Great park to visit, but be sure to check the tides.
PENSACOLA, Florida ;-- ;From my perch in a small one-man kayak on the waters of Big Lagoon State Park ;in Pensacola, I can see clear across the waters of Grand Lagoon to the wooden areas surrounding it. Great egrets cruise across the water...

Picking back up with the theme of houses I'll never afford.
From pool tables to an infinity pool, this upscale waterfront home has everything you need for the perfect harbor-side gathering of adults or children.

The best story about seagrass you'll read all day... probably.
Several important species of shrimp, crabs and fish all depend on seagrass beds for parts of their life cycle, but these crucial habitat areas have declined by half according to most estimates.

"I immediately plunge into the spring... up to my mid-shins. Exhale. Relax. Heat flowing out through feet. Temples still sweaty. Body confused. Was I hot or cold? I can't remember anymore, but I feel... better."
The 68-degree waters of Ponce de Leon Springs are an instantaneous cure for summer heat and boredom, just off of Interstate 10 in Holmes County, Fla.

Another cool new project taking shape along the coast.
The Alabama Gulf Coast Reef and Restoration Foundation is looking to improve upon and add to some existing reef structures off the Alabama coast to create "Poseidon's Playground," a group of scuba reefs shallow enough for young or beginning divers and interesting enough to draw attention to the area.

Even experienced anglers sometimes have trouble distinguishing between a legal bull shark and a protected sandbar shark.
Sandbar sharks resemble the legal bull shark species but can be distinguished by an elevated ridge between the dorsal fins of the protected sandbar species.

No humans were harmed in the making of this zombie apocalypse. One car got a little banged up though.
