is responsible for me getting on the internet. He wrote this piece of software called Waffle, and its last version - 1.65, I believe - carried with it a complete UUCP package.
Somewhere on the internet are Usenet posts in which I used the email address firstname.lastname@example.org. After about six months, uublip was removed from the chain, and my machine (outlander) dialed in to ccss to get email a little more directly. I ran such an account for about two years from 1995 to 1997, when ccss stopped servicing UUCP as a hobby, dedicating his machinery to things more worth his time.
Suffice it to say, outlander (at any given point in time, anything from a 12 MHz 286 with maybe 2 MB RAM to a 486 DX/4 100 with 8 MB RAM) is long dead - and all the components thereunto pertaining are long scattered into places unknown....
