Help Valerie create an Open Kitchen home away from (its original) home (which was at Reader's Digest). She's already reached her goal but there are still some pretty great incentives left to claim.
I'm going fully freelance this week, and I have the opportunity to take over my blog and keep telling the stories of producers, chefs, home cooks, activists, artisans and people doing extraordinary things in the world of food. Please help me relaunch Open Kitchen, either by donating or sharing this campaign. The perks for contributing are pretty awesome by the way: We're talking Le Creuset Canada goodies, Medallion Whole Smoked Salmon, signed Lynn Crawford cookbooks, Rossy Earle's famous hot sauce and raw fair-trade honey hand-packed by Stella Sehn of sweetpurehoney.ca. Thank you!!!!

Montreal! I'm giving a presentation on WordPress custom fields and page templates at RPM Startup Centre on Thurs, Nov 21.

Think of all the site topics that demand more than just a title and a post body: recipes that include nutritional information, film pages that list cast and crew names, books that have won awards.

We’ve probably all been guilty of stuffing this extra related content – videos, links, dates, images, product specs, supporting info – down into the bottom of the post field, leaving it at the mercy of general post body styling. We’re not proud, but we can be. We can do better!

This talk will help you choose your tools and start now. We’ll cover:

- Case study: building a catalogue of films.
- Overview of simple coding and plugin techniques you can use to control presentation.
- Step-by-step tutorial on combining custom fields with page templates (suitable for newish-to-intermediate theme developers, or front-end designers that want to know more about layout possibilities).

Hope to see you there! More info at the event listing below. #montreal #wordpress

So PROUD we've made the New York Times. #cdnpoli

Breaking news update! Due to a rock-and-roll-incompatible injury (not me), we (Big Knife Little Knife) have to cancel our set at the Circle Takes the Square show on Wednesday. All advance intentions to maybe come see us if nothing good was on tv will be honoured.

AUTHENTICITY CHECKER. Hilarious, incongruous Facebook feedback-gathering.
