The "eight worldly winds" in Buddhism are pleasure and pain, praise and blame, fame and disrepute, gain and loss. These are pairs of opposites: one we are attracted to, the other repulsed by. The conditions of their blowing are beyond us and can’t be controlled. We get carried away by these winds and may lose our freedom if we let them dictate our lives.

- fascinating read. I hope that these praises and blames that drive this "shame culture" are only a moment of our transition toward a new paradigm of what are relationships, and self perception. Electronic interconnectedness is still, on a human life scale, very new, and it seems to me that there is constant auto correction in our ways to perceive how it changes the very notion of "us" and our personal place in it .34w
